Driving from Chicago to Naples, Fl

We are driving from Chicago to Naples, Fl. We are looking to stay overnight in Georgia for one night each way. Atlanta is half way. We researched hotels last year on our travels and thought we had picked a really good hotel, with a pool, based on reviews from a couple of popular sites. That did not end up working out for us. :( I'm sure that there are families out there that do this trip often! I hoping to get answers from someone with first hand knowledge, of a specific hotel, in a specific town, in Georgia. A pool is a must. :) Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Oh lord, I would dread that like the plague. Is there any way you can fly? SO much safer.

That said, we travel a lot and I have found the Hilton family of hotels to be good spots. Some are better than others, check the yelp or trip advisor ratings. Usually they are located in areas such that it is easy access to the interstate, etc.

We've also used the Marriott family of hotels as well.

All of them have pools and fitness centers. You might find a decent place if you look at the suites like Embassy, Homewood (both Hilton), Hilton Garden Inn's are usually nice. Hampton's are nice but they do cater pretty much to business traveler and might not have the things you like. Marriott has Fairfield Inn which is a suite.

Go directly to the hotel sites such as Hilton.com and Marriott.com and you can compare hotels in the area where you plan to stay.

Naples is nice... Where are you staying? We were at Marco Island a couple years ago at the Hilton resort and loved it.

Best wishes.

We used to do this drive every summer. We stayed in jasper on the way there and Marietta on the way home. Always drove through Atlanta before stopping both coming and going. I think we stayed at a country inn and suites one way and a comfort inn the other. The pools were not huge but they were fine for letting the kids use up energy and they had free breakfast the next morning

We just drove from Illinois to Punta Gorda, FL. We used Residence Inn by Marriott going both directions. They have huge rooms with kitchens. They have excellent breakfasts (eggs - not just starches). We stayed at one in Atlanta Kennesaw/Town Center. It seems to be very new. We stopped at midnight without a reservation, so paid full price at $149 - but when combining an excellent room with an excellent breakfast, it was still a good price. Their "single" room has a bed and a sofa sleeper - don't know the square footage, but it is a huge room. They have a nice outdoor pool.

If you know anyone who has AAA car insurance, ask them to call AAA and ask for a Trip book and let them know where you are starting snd ending. They will map out your route and give you places you can stop along the way. As for hotels, check out yelp.com. it is real people who give you ratings.
