My 4 month old has "Dry skin" in his head well it is on his scalp. It is only toward the back like the center of the head where it starts going down the back of the head. I have put baby oil on it combed it out and then washed it i do this everyother night. I have even put lotion on his head... But it comes back. I don't know what else to do for it. The dr. told me not to worry about it that it wont hurt him, and it will go away, i can deal with that, but it still bugs me. Any suggestions will help... Thanks so much

My daughter has the samething and I would put baby oil on her head and leave it on over night and then wash it out the next morning. It went away she is now 6 yr. and has trouble with it anymore. i did it about times a week
As gross as this sounds, it does dry skin no good to be washed (w/ soap) every day. I know the baby oil makes hair hard to deal with. My son has eczema and I struggled with caddle cap for a very long time. With eczema my doc told me not to use soap and only shampoo my sons hair(now almost 2) only twice a week. well I do it about three times a week and it works well and it works wonders not to use soap on his skin too. I use it only when hes been playing in dirt and he just doesnt seem clean. I know your little one doesn't look great with oily hair but it will help i promise not to shampoo it every day
My whole family (besides my husband) has very sensitive skin. We use Avon skin so soft. It is very mild and works like a charm. We use so much that I started selling Avon.
You might try Aquaphor. This stuff is great for many kinds of skin irritations, dry skin, etc. I got samples free from my doctor, but it's at Wal-Mart too. Good luck!
my 4 month old had same thing and it would go away a day or so after washing but come back so gradually over a day while id be feeding him id lightly peel it off and now its gone and hasent come back. just dont do it over the soft spots.
All of my sons had that and I was told not to comb it out just to keep their heads oiled. I also saw an ad for a shampoo to treat it. I can't think of the name right if the top of my head, but you can probably find it in the baby aisle.
My 3 month old has this same problem. I've been using Head and Shoulders shampoo for the past few weeks and the cradle cap is almost gone.
Baby oil! Take a wash cloth and soak his head with baby oil. Massage out the dry skin. I promise, PROMISE it doesn't hurt! ANd to keep dry skin away a few drops of baby oil every bath time. Good luck, let me know how it goes!
Hi S.. It sounds like your baby has cradle cap. My son had it as well, and it was very resistant to treatment for me as well. What worked for me was using a kit for treating cradle cap that is made by Gerber. It is a 4-step process the really speeds up the clearing of cradle cap. I purchased it at the drugstore, though it may be available at Babies R Us as well. Hope that helps!
My son had this also. He was born with a full thick head of hair. My mother kept him during the day for me, and a couple times a day she would put Vaseline Intensive Care lotion for Extra Dry skin on his head, work it in, and then comb his hair.
Although he came home with an oil mohawk for about a month, his dry skin cleared up, never to return.
Have you tried something like head and shoulders? You have to be very careful not to get it in their eyes though. Both of my children have suffered with this and it has worked wonders for them!
Sounds like cradle cap to me too.
Our doc had me do the following:
1) use Neosporin (or something similar) - I think this was in case I scratched his scalp that he'd have an antibiotic on there - and put it on the scalp
2) let him sleep with it overnight (I just let it sit for a few hours, I was scared it would get in his eyes or something during the night).
3) Carefully comb it out
4) Wash his hair/head with Neutrogena T/Sal - it's for Scalp Build-Up Control. There are probably other things that will work too (like Head and Shoulders). Be really careful with his eyes - this will sting like crazy!
I washed my son's hair with this about 3 times that week and never had another problem.

I am a natural product person and all this Head and Shoulders advice makes me cringe - not being critical of other moms...I didn't know better at one time.
The harsh chemicals in that kind of shampoo is not something I would want to use on me - let alone my little one. I have an acquaintance who's granddaughter suffered second degree burns from Alberto VO5 dropping on her face in the shower! And it's not medicinal.
There are much healthier alternatives - that actually work better from my experience. I would use Naturals Melaleuca Oil Shampoo from Melaleuca, Inc. (www.melaleuca.com) and then use their Renew Lotion. It is a leader in research for effectiveness with chronic skin problems. And totally safe for all ages. They do have a children's shampoo also...but these shampoos are not just cleaners; they are made to nuture the scalp and hair - which can be fed by the way.
One example - a mom just recently told me her three year old had been on steriods for his eczema since he was eleven months old...and he still had bloody sheets in the morning from scratching. Renew Lotion healed his abrasions in one week...and soon made him totally healed from the exzema. It has no harsh chemicals in it like many store shelf products.
Even the oil - baby oils included - are not a healing fix...and can be a clogging agent.

Sounds like cradle cap to me also ! Although mt little boy never had it, my niece did and I remember her mom getting something from Wal-Mart and putting on her head that gave her the "oil mawhawk" like someone else mentioned. but it did work ! She tolerated it for almost a year, (though I'm not sure why !! LOL) before buy the stuff at WM. She had a head full of hair from day one also. Must be something to do with that don't ya think? ok- enough babbling!! hope you find what you are looking for !!
