I know Easter isn't for awhile but I'm trying to come up with creative things to do for my kids as tradition for Easter. I leave eggs out and a basket from the easter bunny and last year I made my husband go on a scavenger hunt with my son but I'm just curious what everyone else does for fun???

What can I do next?

Last year my son and I made sugar cookies in the shape of bunnies and easter eggs! Then I bought frosting, color frostring markers, and fun decortating candies and sprinkles! We had a blast decorating them while we listened to music. The best part was when daddy got home Payton was very excited to show him what he had done. My husband also enjoyed eating them! Hope this helps

We do the usual egg coloring. I also hide an easter basket for my four year old to look for. She's not a candy consumer so I've bought the plastic eggs and fill them with stickers, play jewelery, little trinkets, etc and hide them and bubbles, sidewalk chalk, etc for her to find outside. It gets her outside for a little while and she loves looking for things.

We have several baskets to find in the morning. We fill them with small gifts and juice boxes etc. in order to avoid the mid-morning candy crash. We have brunch with family while one member hides the eggs in the back yard. We hunt for the eggs (adults and older kids have to find only the ones with their names). Then we burn off steam by going to the park. (Flying kites has somehow become a tradition for our family)
Your 2 1/2 year old is old enough to help dye the eggs. One year I went to the craft store and bought a bunch of wooden eggs which we painted the week before Easter.
Have fun.

Growing up my mom was always consistent in holidays about what we ate for breakfast and that's probably what I remember best about holidays and plan to continue on with my kids when they are older. Easter mornings she always made eggs and polish sausage, Christmas mornings she makes pillsbury cinnamon rolls.

I dont do this but I think it is kind of cool. Read it in Family Fun....
Scope out the neighborhood and find another family with kids and hide eggs, etc in their yard for them to discover in the morning. Could leave a note on their door if you dont think they will notice.....
just an idea

J.,
We die Easter eggs with our boys 3&4. We also have plastic eggs that we fill with stickers and jelly beans. We also have made butterfly pictures. We take the egg shells after we eat the eggs that we dyed and use the pieces to glue them to a cardboard butterfly. They are beautiful additions to our front door.

My son is two and a half, too. Last year we died easter eggs and made caramel rolls. We also had a hunt with the plastic eggs filled with little toys and candy. My son loves helping me make cookies, so this year I'm adding sugar cookies to the tradition. I'm going to tint a variety of pastel frostings and buy sprinkles, and let him decorate. Then we'll put them in small baskets and give them away to close friends and family.

Another thought if you're a baker: make the traditional Easter bread together, and give that away. My neighbor has always done that, and we sure love receiving this unique, festive bread during Easter.

Have fun!

We usually still have snow outside or its too wet to go out and hide eggs so we hide plastic eggs filled with stickers, candy, little things all over the house. Usually they find them all but sometimes theres a surprise under a couch cushion a few days later. The kids like finding where the easter bunny put all the eggs and are always surprised to find them in their bedroom too. We use the same baskets every year for them to collect their eggs in and tell them that they are our special egg baskets.

a friend of mine used to make "evidence" of the bunny by shaking chocolate covered raisins in a bit of cocoa powder to make them look more poo-like and would leave a few of them around the house. She always said her kids thought it was the funniest part of the day. (gross, yes, but entertaining to the kids)

When we were growing up, my dad would hide chocolate eggs around the house. What was so fun was that some you had to look for and some sat in plain sight. It was alway amusing to see how creative he could be. We found eggs balanced on doorknobs, on the arms of the couch, on the dials of the stereo, ends of the bookshelves, etc. Our favorite was the chicken door stop someone had given my parents...it laid a clutch of chocolate eggs every Easter. Both my sister and I have continued this tradition in our own families (even before we had kids). LOL

If you live by a farm, they usually have baby chicks and ducklings that little kids love to see- not to mention baby everything else!

I wouldn't worry. It sounds like you have a good Easter tradition already started. Holidays don't have to be huge affairs for your kids to remember them fondly. I remember the easy laid back Easters much better than the one's that were more "Busy". Have fun.
