Easter Gift

I am thinking about putting together Easter backets for my girls. I usually don't go too all out. I don't want them to think Easter is only about gifts!
My little one is easy. Give her some candy and some little outdoor toys. The 14 year old on the other hand...not so easy! I'm stuck this year. Do you moms have any great ideas for me? She doesn't really have any hobbies or anything. I am open to any great ideas you may have! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Once again - I can't send flowers...UGH!
But, thanks for all the great answers. I definitely have some good ideas here.

Ditto to what Rachel D. said about commercialization. That said, some candy, and some little items like sunglasses, book and maybe a gift card to sonic, braums, starbucks or mcdonalds for an afternoon out with friends.
14 is pretty old to get a full-on easter basket. Maybe just ask her:)

This year, all my kids are getting a liiiiittle bit of candy in plastic eggs, whatever Easter books I can find, some bubbles, Easter hats for the girls, bunny ears for my son, and of course they'll search for the hardboiled eggs we dye. That's IT. I'm kind of over how commercialized Easter's gotten.

A theme basket, like "beauty" nail polish, bubble bath, lotion, etc. or "summer" swimsuit, sunglasses, flip flops.
It does get harder as they get older. Last year I put together a basket for my teen son which was full of things I don't usually buy...soda, chips, candy and a jack in the box gift card...he LOVED it!

- Swim suit for the summer
- Cool sunglasses for the sunshine
- Sunscreen
- Beach towel
- Nail polish
- Lip gloss, mascara, etc (if she wears or wants to wear makeup)
- Decorated hair ties or headbands
- Water bottle
** At this age, I remember my mom doing a "summer beach bag" for each of us, but we grew-up in FL so it was HOT by Easter! The "bunny" always brought us our new summer gear and a water-proof bag to carry it all in.

How about a book or a gift card to a book store? Maybe some new sunglassses or a purse? Are there any magazines she likes? If so, buy her one and put a note in there that you have ordered a year sub.

Ulta has a sale this week where you get 5 little items for $10 (nail polish, body wash/lotion, hair spray, brush, etc.) and you get a free little basket/bag that's really cute. It's on the front page of their ad this week. It would be really cute for a girl that age!

Hi,

At Kohl's (or even Claire's - but Kohl's are usually nicer) they will usually have some cute easter jewelry.... does she have pierced ears? You could get her little egg earrings and a necklace of a bunny or whatever.
or - they have those neat jewelry sets that have sayings... the "daughter" ones are nice. You could also get her a 'faith' necklace and a 'dream' ring and then write her a note that talks about the use of those two words and how they are relevant to Easter.

If she doesn't have any hobbies.... would she want to start one? get her an inexpensive digital camera (you can find them for as cheap as $20) and a scrapbook set that is easter themed (paper with eggs and bunnies, and pastel colors). Then ask if she would be willing to take pics that day and help her make a scrapbook of her pics - she can print them right off the computer on regular paper and put them in the scrapbook (or one hour photo at Costco or CVS is super cheap and you can do it right on line and pick them up in the store).

OR - give her a 'coupon' in her basket for a mani-pedi with you, but have the polish be easter egg colors. The nail techs would be happy to paint each nail a different 'easter egg' color. Plus - it's bonding time for the 2 of you. We have been to Pinky - they have salons in a bunch of places now. or Arbre downtown is great... I would recommend either place and they are both good with young ladies.

Good Luck!

We keep it simple, because like you we don't want it to be all about the gifts. We're Catholic, so we usually give something up or take something on, and I relate their Easter basket gifts to that. Everyone in the family gave up desserts this year, so that's easy - they get Easter candy. My youngest also gave up soft drinks, which is funny because he isn't allowed soft drinks except on special occassions, but I'll put a Dr. Pepper in his basket. My oldest gave up sweet tea, and he loves sweet tea from Chick-fil-a, so I'll get him a $5 gift card to Chick-fil-A. They will be ridiculously excited about these simple gifts. Happy Easter!

Make-up, CDs, small gift cards (like $5), teen books if she reads.

I have two kids, 7 year old and 4 year old and I usually just do some candy in those little eggs, a small toy and some stickers and a chocolate bunny. So not much but enough so they get something.

I usually put swim stuff in my kids baskets. New goggles, swim suit, trunks (for boy), water balloons, and a little bit of sugar free candy. I am not huge on candy and I don't like going over board on things easter bunnyish. I use the time to kind of kick-off spring. oh and don't forget a good book about the true meaning of easter.
