I'm looking for an easy snack preschoolers can make at an Easter party. We have made Easter basket cookies and doughnuts in the past, but I would like a new idea this year. Does anyone know of something easy for a preschooler to assemble and eat? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

What can I do next?

I always bring jello jigglers in the shape of that holiday. So maybe a large agg and let them decorate it with something if you wanted to have it as an activity.

I always sign up for christmas and valentines so I can do trees and hearts :)

The kids always love it and it is such a change of pace from the every party cookie or pastry snack.

S.,

Is it a healthy snack or a dessert? Many people serve dessert for snack, but I try not to.

What age are they? Are they old enough to eat carrots like real bunnies do?

My daughter's preschool class always loves carrots with the tops left ON. They feel more like real bunnies. I wash and skin them first, then lay them on a table family style on top of napkins. They are instructed to only touch what they are going to eat, and not to take one if they know they are not going to eat it. If they are unsure, they can take one to try, since trying a food is always encouraged. But they can't take it to join in the fun then not even taste it - that's wasting. So, to have fun, they have to try a healthy food! Even kids who wouldn't otherwise eat a carrot like to join in the fun. Great fun way to get they to eat something other than sugar, sugar, sugar. Many of the kids eat more than one. Organic are sweeter than conventional. Get at Whole Foods, or perhaps regular store organic section.

You could also put out nice fresh crunchy lettuce like romaine, but again a choking hazard for young ones.

They could also cut bread with an easter/spring cookie cutter shapes like bunny or butterfly and spread something on it. My daughter likes avocado or guacamole. They sell a "Sunbutter" seseame seed spread that doesn't violate any "no nut or peanut" rules. Or just eat with butter or plain. Perhaps decorate the bunny with a raisin eye or a marshmallow tail.

Have fun and Good luck!

My kids liked making "jello eggs" and jello cutouts when they were younger. It can be done for ANY holiday with jello. The recipe should be on the jello box but if not, just mix it with very little water and pour into egg molds that you can buy......or pour into a narrow pan, refrigerate until firm, and use cookie cutters. Using different flavors of jello gives so many different colors and they are SO good, fun to make, and also healthy to eat.

Have a FUN time whatever you do!

Try letting them decorate their own cupcakes. You could let them be creative with jelly beans(eyes), twizellers(whiskers)waffer cookies(ears). Of course this may be way too much sugar??

What about Smore's? That would be a fun snack yet easy to assemble for the kiddos.

This project would be messy, but fun. I like to make "bird's nests". Stir Chow Mein Noodles into barely melted butterscotch chips. With lightly buttered hands, form a little nest. If you make sure the mixture is not too hot, this is an appropriate activity for most preschoolers. Top the nest with a few jellybeans and a marshmallow peep and you have a cute and tasty treat.

I think there is something like eggs in a basket where you put cheerios in the bottom and then a few jelly beans to represent the eggs. Check www.familyfun.com or http://www.dltk-kids.com/coloring.htm they both usually have great ideas.

This recipe requires and oven, or batches made in a toaster oven might work. I have not made this recipe but thought it was so cool when I saw it that it has been sitting in the "recipes" folder in my email for a while now. Maybe this year.... anyway, here it is:
Resurrection Rolls

Ingredients:

1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (or you can use regular Pillsbury refrig. rolls)
8 large marshmallows (or small marshmallows)
Melted butter
Cinnamon
Sugar

Directions:

*Give each child one triangle shaped section of crescent roll. This represents the tomb.
*Each child takes one marshmallow which represents the body of Christ.
*Dip the marshmallow in the butter and roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture. This represents the oils and spices the body was anointed with upon burial.
*Lay the marshmallow on the dough and carefully wrap it around the marshmallow.
* Make sure all seams are pinched together well. (Otherwise the marshmallow will "ooze" out of the seams)
*Bake according to package directions.
*Cool.

*Break open the tomb and the body of Christ is no longer there!! He is risen!
*Celebrate God's love!

I also teach preschool and I have made Rice Krispie treats and shaped them into a nest and let the kids fill them with little jellybeans. You can also put green food coloring with coconut to make grass to put in them.
