Well my baby likes to hold flowers and usually just sniffs them, but on our walk earlier she ate a daffodil, not the stem but all the petals! I have also caught her with a clover leaf and a tree blossom, but not sure if she ate the whole thing. I watch her but she is so sneaky and fast, she can steal a peice of paper and have it mostly chewed up in less than 5 seconds! Im just wondering what common plants are not good for her to be around, and the ones that she did eat, are they okay? Also just curious whats the weirdest thing your baby/toddler has ever ate?
well , my daughter was part beaver. her toddler bed looked like a pack of beavers had gotten a hold of it. She gnawed the spines off of books in addition to the beaver action on the bed. Paper disappeared quickly with her too.
With my first daughter our pediatrician gave us a brochure with a list of common plants that are poisonous. It included both house plants and outside plants that grow in our area. It also included their names as well as pictures for easy identification. You might ask your pediatrician if they have anything like that, or check with your library for a specific list of poisonous plants. And maybe you should program poison controls number into your cell phone just in case. :-)
At 1 1/2 my daughter ate a Blue Tidy Bowl (Toilet Cleaner) tablet which was way out of her reach but she somehow got to. Poison Control said to watch her and it was ok. Her mouth was just a little red for a day or so. At 3 1/2 she ate a plastic bead that I thought had blocked her intestine when she didn't poop for 3 days so we went to the ER for an xray. It came out in two more days on it's own but she was really mad at me bc I made her poop in the potty chair until I found it. Plants, a penny, I don't remember what else, but I've called Poison Control 4 times I think. And yes, my home was child proofed but she was (is) a very smart and determined child. She's 10 now but I still find her sticking things in her mouth when she's watching tv such as erasers, paper clips. She chews her nails, too. I don't know why she does this but it isn't a concious decision at this point. I just try to keep things out of her immediate reach. Hopefully, yours will grow out of it! Good luck!
I would watch her around the daffodils. The bulbs are certainly a concerns...you never know what they will dig up. The rest of the plant can cause a reaction in senstive individuals.
The clover isn't concerning. The tree blossom...would all depend on the trees, but if she were going to be sick, you would know it by now.

castor bean (Ricinus)
azaleas
This certainly isn't an exhaustive list, but covers a lot of what you might encounter in your area or in a home.
I am not an alarmist about these sorts of things, but you DO need to do whatever you can to break this habit. Some plants have a delayed reaction and knowing what caused a problem may dictate the treatment that would be needed in case of a reaction. A person is usually offended by the taste or gets a belly ache long before enough is really ingested to make you seriously ill, but children are much more sensitive.
Don't feel so bad, my best friend's son ate a cricket. (it was alive). Elephant ears are poisonous to children, never let her around those. As far as other plants, I don't know. M.
My daughter was especially fond of dried crickets, legs, antenae and all. And her brother would get down on his hands and knees to eat cat food straight out of their bowl. My brother was caught eating penicillin for a tom cat with an infection...I guess it didn't hurt him since he's 38 years old now.
Mine ate some of the black rocks that are under the logs in gas fireplaces. Thankfully, they passed with no problem! :)
LOL, you just described my 8mo daughter! First off, I don't think any of the flowers you described are harmful. You can always call poison control to be sure.
The weirdest thing my girl eats is hair. She can spot a strand of hair form across the room and pick it up with her little pincher grasp and pops it in her mouth. She's so sneaky too. She'll turn her back to me because she thinks I can't see her. I go over to her and all I can see is the other end of the hair sticking out of her mouth. So when her back is turned, she's up to something :)
