My son has a mild case of eczema on his knees and elbows. The doctor suggested using the hydrocortizone. I thought that was to harsh for a child, she also suggested aquaphor but I didnt want to use a petrolleum jelly. Can anyone suggest a better way of treating my son without using such harsh medicine?

YES! My son had the same thing, along with a possibility to develop asthma (the two are related). My pediatrician put him on amino fatty acid supplememnnts (she recommended Carleson's Lemon flavored cod liver oil, 1/2 tsp a day -- and he loves it)

In addition to that, she recommended aquafore -- but I, too, did not want petroleum by-product on my baby, so I got the non-petroleum equivalent at wholefoods : "No petroleum jelly" All he needs is a moisture barrier. My pediatrician instructed us to apply it to his damp skin to lock the moisture in.

It worked!

Good luck!

Lots of Love,
Linda

my son has had eczema since he was like 3 months old && we are still battleing it. and all we've ever used is hydrocortisone and aquaphor. if you dont want to the cortisone at least use aquaphor, that stuff works wonders. i carry a tube around with me in my purse. the key to getting eczema under control is locking in moisture. once hes out of the bath, quickly pat dry, and while hes still damp either use aquaphor or a good lotion, and lotio n him up. hope this helps :]

I have eczema too, and so does my son...it's awful. For both of us, I use Aveeno products. They have a great infant line, bath wash and lotion, that has eased the dryness and roughness of the skin.

My son had eczema as well! I found the perfect solution! This even saves me money too! Don't spend another dime on creams! Go here: http://www.switchingstores.com/sandyl and I will call and tell you about this! These are NOT harsh and are naturally based!
