Eczema on Feet

My 11 yr old cousin's feet are peeling and cracking on the bottom. One of the cracks was about 2 inches long and went down the center of her foot. It is horribly painful. She has been to 5 doctors and was told she has a form of eczema. Right now they are using steroid creams but it will come back. Has anyone experienced this? What helped? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My 12 yr old has fought with this all her life. Luckily, most of it has gone away and she jsut gets occasional flare-ups which are painful. We use prescription cremes which I have not found to be "helpful" and they have not cured hers.

Now, when she was born, it started from her knees down. I was told it was an allergy. If she gets barefoot in grass, it flares up. When we are at the beach, it goes away. She has outgrown most of it at this point and it is just on her toes.

For comfort, she uses pink calamine lotion and socks. Also, Noxema is comforting.

Good luck, I know this is a pain. Hopefully hers will get much better with time as well.

Susan

Hi Stephanie!
The best lotion I've found for this is at Target in the baby aisle. It's called Baby Eczema Cream by Gentle Naturals. It's sort-of a green & white squeeze bottle with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet on it. It seems to relieve my son's eczema pretty nicely. Good luck!

My 10 year old daughter gets severe "athlete's foot" in the winter when her feet are in closed shoes all day. What you describe sounds exactly like what her feet were like last winter. Her toes were even bleeding. Just a thought that she could have been misdiagnosed? The pediatrician gave us a prescription anti-fungal cream that works wonders. We use it whenever she has flare ups. It is called OXISTAT 1%. It may not be that, but I thought it was worth mentioning...it is miserable. I hope she finds relief soon!

I use products that are all natural and not only get rid of the peeling/cracking...in most cases the symptoms won't come back.

Please contact me if you'd like to hear more...i can tell you where I shop, etc.
