Eczema on Your Scalp?

Hi Moms,
I have a history of eczema. I'm 8 months pregnant and have it very badly on my scalp. It's terribly itchy, and I know my hair is starting to thin also. Can any of you tell me what has worked for you to treat it? I've been using California Baby's sensitive shampoo and it's not working. I don't want to use the sulfur shampoo I used before because I'm pregnant right now. I'm just wondering if any of you have had it there, and what worked for you (esp. if you were pregnant).

Thanks!
T.

The doc prescribed me Elocon Solution to put on scalp after washing hair. I used it while pregnant with both my kids. Still using it and no more itchy scaly scalp.

Try Neutrogena T-Gel It got rid of our sons eczema on his scalp and its gentle enough for kids you only use it twice a week though. Let me know if that helps you?

My daughter has dealt with eczema and psoriasis since she was 8 years old. She just turned 26. We have tried everything and what I have found is that everyone reacts differently to different treatments and even the time of year you need to treat differently. With you being pregnant and not wanting to add drugs and chemicals to your bloodstream I think your options are very limited. I am assuming that you have a treatment plan with your doctor…if not, you should.

However, to answer your question, something that worked well at times for my daughter was tanning bed treatments and bag balm. You can find bag balm at most drug stores in a green square tin. Farmers’ wives use to use it on their hand when milking cows (thus the “bag” part of the name) I know, I know, when it was recommended to me years ago I exclaimed…What!...and was very doubtful. But it did help.

Now if you use the bag balm, you need to use it at night and wash it out in the shower the next day. Also, put a plastic bag, wrap on your head or your pillows will be ruined.

I can’t promise how your husband will react to this treatment….it aint pretty! Sorry. But it did work on my daughter….same of feet and hands but gloves and socks aren’t as bad!

Good luck

After double checking that it is in fact eczema (which shouldn't make you lose your hair, that doesn't seem right) I had good luck with tea tree oil. I used it on my hands and the back of my neck when I was pregnant.

If it is very itchy and you are losing your hair in that area, you need to have your Dr. culture it. Somethimes people get a fungal infection in their hair that just looks like dry scalp or eczema. I would have the Dr. look at it just to be sure.

Your saying you have eczema. I have the same and mine is psoriasis. It is a plague psoriasis. I have used many shampoo's and nothing works' only because there is no cure. I did find that the tar shampoo helped. Because of your pregnancy I know it wouldn't harm you. I also use a lilac based shampoo because it helps as well. Right now I am using "Sweet Grass" shampoo along with the Lilac, 2 washes. I also have this all over my body as well. Forms like a scab on my skin and my head as well. If I scrub my head to hard even rinsing burns terribly. If you can get the "Sweet Grass" shampoo it is an all natural made usually on reservations but I'm sure a Health Food Store would have it as well. I wish you the best of luck.
The other stuff the physician has given me I wouldnt' even suggest to you.

Baby shampoo is also full of wrong ingrediënts. I can recomand the Forever living products (it is only available by distributors, you can found one on the internet). Fully natural, no chemicals added.

Hi T.

I also suffer from a type of exzema not only on my scalp but on my body. The two things that I felt helped me were to a) bath in a strong teatree bath oil and b) to take probiotics. it is expensive but it worked for me. Take the probiotic on an empty tummy. nothing to eat for an hour before and after taking it. Hope it helps

My daughter also has terrible eczema on her scalp. I try to use very mild ( often baby shampoo) and then I also use a conditioner. Her hair is very long and we try not to wash it daily...when I wash her hair out I spend a lot of time making sure I do not leave any residue on her hair and then I spend a ton of time brushing her hair with a comb so that I can get the eczema all out. To freshen it up a bit between washes I often will spritz her hair with a detangler. I have yet to find an over the counter product that helped, I will be watching to see if you get any good suggestions! I wish I could be of more help, even my daughters pediatrician is of no help with that area!
Lots of luck
