M.S.
My son had to have one at 18 months and I did everything i could. Lots of crafts, paint, make cookies, take a long bubble bath. You will see that the night will fly by. And plan on your son sleeping long the next day. Good luck
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to keep my son from falling sleeping? He is going to have a sleep deprevation EEG and can only have 5 hours of sleep the night before. And no, caffine is not an option and my son could sleep through an earthquake.
Things were a lot smoother than I expected. I kept him occupied with playing until 10:30, then blew bubbles for 40 minutes and then a SUPER LONG 40 minute bath. Everyone was right, the night just flew by. So he got to sleep from 12:00 to 5:00. Thank God that my husband had the morning shift. I want to thank everyone for their helpful advice.

What about putting him in a shopping cart & walking around a wal-mart, maybe down the toy isle. A store that stays open late.
Hi M.,
My sister had epilepsy and went through many EEGs. My mom planned lots of activities like baking cookies that are labor intensive with cutting, frosting, sprinkling, etc. She also did laundry and cleaning. Kids like to do what mom does. Do anything that keeps you both occupied. You can't fall asleep either.
It is so hard for you as the mom but my sister had fun and my younger brother stayed up also because he did not want to miss out.
Good luck.
Maybe I can help. I used to have these done on a regular basis when I was young. My Mom would play games with me, take me out places (like a 3 in the morning trip to Dennys for ice cream, etc) and walk me around a lot. It is tough, but we did it once every few months for years so though it doesn't get easier, it is doable. It can help to prep by keeping him up later and later leading up to the night before the test so that his circadian rythems will have adjusted a bit already.
Good Luck!
