Hi Moms! I recently made mashed potatoes on our electric stove-top and it spilled over creating a mess. Any recommendations on how to clean the burned mess? Thanks in advance for your help.
I usually use a Holy Cow product on my stovetop(found at Walgreens and Fry's). I particulary like the pink one. I use that to get as much off as possible. Then I use a Magic Eraser to get the rest off-they work great!
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works great! Walmart also has a generic that works the same...good luch!
Soft Scrub is a wonderful invention!
I had a real problem with my stove top getting greesy and really covered in grime. I tried the Green Works from Clorox and will never use anything else again. It smells great and worked like a charm. I sprayed it on and let it sit for a few minutes while I wiped down my counters with it then went back with just a rag and everything just wiped right off. I love this stuff. The greatest thing about it is it is natural. Good Luck!
If you have a glass top, you can use Bar Keepers Friend on it. Takes a little elbow grease, but works really well. Then you can use a stove-top polish on it. BKF is a powder in a gold can, you'd find it in the cleaners section at the store.
You can also take a razor scraper to scrape off really bad areas.
You said electric stove not glass stove, so I'm going to assume that you have coil burners. The actual metal surface shouldn't be too difficult to clean after a good soaking with any household cleaner, but those silver bowls under the burners are a different matter entirely.
When I moved out of my first apartment, I spent HOURS trying to scrub those things down (I was sure I'd lose my deposit if I didn't leave the place sparkling). It wasn't until years later than I discovered you could buy those things brand new at Wal-mart for seven bucks.
My advice to you? Clean what you can and (when it gets bad enough) replace the rest.

I use 'WEIMAN Cook Top' - Glass Cook Top Cleaner. It is a white cream and works great! I did try another brand that sprayed on and it was a waste of money. I will be curious and try baking soda now that I read that suggestion. Oh wait, maybe you didn't mean a Glass Top. I used SOS pads on my old stove, under the burners.
first scrape it with a razor then use either a magic erase sponge or glass cook top cleaner...can pick it up at most grocery stores. It will look like new :) B.
My grandma visited and busted out the baking soda on my flat top stove....it worked GREAT! It really does work, I think better than soft scrub type stuff. Just get your stove slightly wet (not soaking) then dump a little on and rub away. It will wad up the soda and turn it brown as you rub. It's awesome! Try it!
