hello mamis. I had my baby in March 2009, i lost a lot of weight back then but like an idiot I gained it all back. Right now I'm 5 pound shy from my full term pregnancy weight (depressing!). I would love to buy an elliptical so I can work out right after the baby goes to sleep. I have a small apartment so a small efficient machine will be the best option. I'm willing to spend around $500 tops. Can anyone suggest a good quality/space saver elliptical at around that price range. any help will be greatly appreacited.

So What Happened?

Thank you Ladies for all the input. I purchased the ProForm Razor and I'm waiting for it to arrive. As far as my diet, I have made changes that will go along with my exercising. A gym was not option as I live in an area where the cheapest gym will end up costing me over $1000. Once again, Thank you all for your help! :-)

You may not be interested in hearing this, and you have every right to not listen. But I truly believe that food is 90% of losing weight and excercise is 10%. I am not saying that excercise isn't important, it is crucial for a whole host of health related things. But if you don't rework what you are eating, you may not see the results you want. I blog about whole and minimally processed foods at www.thetableofpromise.blogspot.com My recipes are not always 'diet' recipes. But I try to stick with whole food ingredients and minimal additives, etc. The combination of whole foods, lots of veggies and giving up the processed stuff was the only thing that helped me lose weight.
Best of luck!

ok I dont want to ask you how much you weigh so I wont. I will just warn you that a lot of cheaper elipticals have a weight limit of 200-250pds. plus alot of them are just cheaply made (mine was $320 and squeaks and I am 100pds under its weight limit!) I have heard really good reviews about the golds gym elliptical its around $500 and is sold at walmart. the best part is they will assemble it for free!

I saw your first response suggested the Gold Gym one from Wallmart.... that is what I purchased after I had my 2nd child. Let me tell you, haha, it kicks your stinking butt. Ha Ha. I got mine for about $350. I like it and it has 8 different exercises and 3 different resistants.

I would also recommend checking craigslist too.

Good Luck!!

I purchased mine on craigslist for $100. Def check it out before you buy it and make sure that it works well and doesn't squek to much or look at walmart.com for a new one. One thing I can tell you, they work great!!! and the more expensive they are the more you will lose. I used to work out on one at my apts gym and the weight was just melting off of me. When we moved to a house I bought a cheaper one and Im still losing weight just not as quickly. I only work out for 30 mins and go 3 miles on it and love it!!! Good Luck, baby weight is hard to lose but you can do it!!

hi lesley....
we went to sears on a holiday weekend and bought the "Pro Form XP 115" elliptical machine and it works great. the only drawback is that you need a corner in your apt to put it permanently. it doesn't fold up and is heavy. so maybe have sears deliver and set it up for u. we got it at about $450.00.

Yeah-- I wouldn't clutter up your small apartment with a huge piece of exercise gear that tones approx one muscle and that you'll use- if you're like 99% of Americans- for about a month and then it will grow cobwebs.

Better to: Do the Master Cleanse to get the ball rolling, South Beach diet for a couple months, while doing Tracy Anderson moves each night (youtube or her website) and you'll be golden.

I'd say even the Wii Fit is a better investment than an elliptical as it takes up less space, is more fun, cheaper, and you can stream Netflix movies to your TV with it.

Please also do yourself a favor and get a physical. Within a year postparum it's common to have thyroid problems. I didn't discover mine until my son was 18 mo old, but it's why I re-gained all my pregnancy weight.

Check craigslist. I got a $3500 elliptical for $100.

Good luck! You've done it once, you TOTALLY can do it again :)

I agree with Christa. To really lose weight you need to create a calorie deficit. That only happens when you expend more calories than you consume. The hardest cardio cycling classes will burn 500-700 calories an hour. If you are then eatting more than 2000 or so calories a day the elliptical will not make a dent in your weight. I dont know where in NYC you are, but what about joining a gym or the Y? All the gyms by me have daycare. It has been my excuse to work out! Strength training will burn calories after the workout while cardio only does while on it. But at the end of the day a good healthy diet is most important to the number on the scale.
