Emerson sounds like a boy name. Actually I think it sounds like a higher class boy name... like Preston, LOL. I like it!
I'm trying to come up with another boy name. My hubby and I might start trying for another baby in a few months and I love to think about names. We have two boys now, Trenton and Jackson. When you think of the name Emerson do you think of a boy or girl?
Thank you all for your votes. I still really love the name Emerson for a boy but I think it is being more and more used for a girl. Which is cool if you want that name for a girl, so I wouldnt want a boy getting mistaken as a girl. I think we have decided on Mason for a boy (super mascule to go with Trenton and Jackson) and Addison (Addi) if we have a girl.

Emerson is definitely a boys' name. Anything that ends in "son" is traditionally a boys' name. However with so many mom "stealing" boy names to name their girls you inevitably end up with names being unisex.
I love it for a boy!
the presence of the word "son" in the name singles it out as a boys name, but I know a girl Emerson, and she is cute!
For me, it's 100% a boys name.
And for the Record - I am a woman that has a boys name and I HATE IT! I had a hard childhood with my name. And still today many people will ask me on the phone for Mr. ______ _________. And at the store when I use a credit card and the cashier looks at the card they will say
" you can't use your husbands card " then I get mad. Then I say " I'm Mrs. _______ ________ ".
Then they say " I will need to see your I.D..
One woman below said that she likes it when a girl has a boys name ( or something like that )! That's not nice. That makes life hard on those that have names from the opposite sex.
There is this guy at my husbands work and his name is Kim. The guys mess with him.
So if you get pregnant with a boy I think that Emerson is a great name for a boy. I like that name ALOT.
I wish you the best.
I have a brother-in-law and a nephew with the middle name Emerson.
I think it sounds like a boy name.
BOY...and electronics...
I would thinks it was a boy.
the name emerson reminds mo of the country band called emerson drive. they were a all male band. they name to me personally can go either way, but maybe a little more towards a boy
I would think 'boy' if I saw the name on a class list of names.
It makes me think boy.
I have never heard of it as a first name. It does sound masculine though.
I think of boy, though I know people are starting to name their girls this too.
I think it's important for you to think about which YOU associate it with, and whether you will mind if people frequently think the wrong thing when they hear the name.
I like it for both, but only know girls with that name. With your other boy names, I like Ashton, Grayson, Ethan, Kellen, Keegan, grafton, Gibson, Braxton, kaelan/caelan, Tristan, Landon, Hayden, and Quinton/Quentin. Love your sons' names!
Boy.
I can't even picture this as a girl name.
I like it a lot as a boy name!
I LOVE this name, for a girl! I have a friend who just named her adoptive daughter Emerson and it's adorable!
Boy name. I like it!
I think it sounds more masculine than feminine. I vote boy name!
Yay I'm glad to see the consensus (so far) on this name tends to be a male name. I was trying to find a name similar to my first name in the masculine form other than Amos...and thought of Emerson, but all my family said it was kind of girly.
When I researched it, it is definitely a masculine (boy name) but recent celebrities started a trend making it a more feminine name by naming their little girls with it!! I can see it both ways too.
But my first thoughts are all boy!!
Boy, but I like it for a girl.
"Emerson" is a BOYS name----how about "Ethan" or "Garnet" for a boy; How about "Emerald" or "Sapphire" for a girl? "Tracy" could be for either, "Haydon" for a boy---"Heidin" for a girl-----ALL appeal to me! GOOD LUCK! ~S~ :>)
Traditionally it's a boy's name. But I also like it for a girl. But I *love* boy's names for girls. So I'm biased.
I know a man named Emerson so for me Emerson is a boy name. But I have an uncle named Addison.
Sounds like a boy name to me.
either.
My son has a friend that is a girl that is named Emerson.
Well, when I think of Emerson, I first think of Ralph Waldo, so I guess I tend toward the boy side. However, I have acquaintances who have named their daughter Emerson, and they call her Emmy for short! In some parts of the country, it's not at all unusual to give a child a "last-name" first name. You've done that twice already, and I think continuing the tradition is lovely.
Both! It flows nicely with your 2 boys' names, so I say use it whether you have a boy or a girl!
I know TWO new little girls with that name... I love it either way. But for me I guess it has to be girl!
I think of a nerdy boy or a trendy girl. What would u shorten to? People could call the girl Ema, or EM, but what would u shorten to for a boy, I wonder?
Girl. I am pretty sure it is Terry Hatcher's (from Desperate Housewives, etc) Daughter's name.
I know of 2 girls named Emerson and 1 boy so it can go either way. Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives has a daughter named Emerson. Rebecca Herbst (an actress on General Hospital) had a baby boy last month and named him Emerson so celebrities seem to think it can go either way as well. One of the girls I know of does go by the nickname of Emmy but I haven't heard the boy use a nickname. I think it sounds good with Trenton & Jackson so maybe you could use it whether you have a boy or a girl. Good Luck for a safe pregnancy!
I think boy....but I suppose it could be used for a girl.
Boy, but could be either. Cute!
Even before I read your question...just the subject...I had already decided that it sounds like a boy name to me. I say if you love it, use it.
I thought BOY when I read (and said in my head) the name. Its ending in 'son' indicates that traditionally it is a boys name, just like the beginning sound 'Mac' indicates that a name was traditionally male (mac means 'son of'). Personally I have never understood naming girls 'son' in any way shape or form...for some reason the other ambi names don't realy bother me, maybe it is because these particular types of names actually HAVE 'son' in their meaning?
Emerson, you could call him Sonny :)
I think of a boy name first, but I suppose it could also be a girl's name. I know an Emerson who is a boy though so maybe my opinion is jaded.
I say boy. I have a coworker with an Emmerson. They call him Em. We liked Emma for a girl, and the only name I liked that used that at a nickname was trying to make Emerson feminine.
I say girl, probably because my friends little girl is Emerson, and her Nickname is Emmi. Look up the meaning and see what it says. :) If its manly maybe it is meant to be a boys name.
I think of girl when I hear Emerson
After saying it and hearing "son" definitely a boy!
I think Emerson is very unisex, but it works well for a boy. It sounds very nice with Trenton and Jackson!
Girl, sounds too feminine for a boy imo.
boy
fyi
i love the name Wyatt
I think an ambi name. I only know 1 Emerson and it is a male (older gentlman in his 50's). But, personally I would use it as a girl.
Good luck!
I think of a boy, but also could be a girl. Emeroy seems like a girls name
I think of a girl, but then again the only Emerson I know is a girl!
I have no clue. LOL. I had never heard of the name till my boyfriends cousin delivered 3 weeks before me and named her girl this. When I think about it, and read it, I think it's unisex. To me it's not super girly, or boyish. =)
Love it! It was a front-runner for my daughter until my husband vetoed it. So I say girl!!!
Boy at first thought, but it could be either and a gril would be called "M" or Emmy. A boy would be call Emerson or "M" or Emer, unless otherwise directed by parents (for a while).
Blessings.....
I think of a boy, but that is a big name for a boy. Sounds like a butlers name. Sorry, thats just what I think..
Girl name. Teri Hatcher's daughter is named Emerson.
Definitely a boys name!
I think of boy first but it could definitely be a girl name.
I like Jackson! Emerson to me sounds totally boy! Good luck!!! :)
Updated
I like Jackson! Emerson to me sounds totally boy! Good luck!!! :)
My husband's cousin has a daughter named Emerson. So, girl.
I used to think of it as a boy's name, but the last Emerson I saw was a girl. It seems to be becoming a popular girl's name.
BTW, I love the name Trenton! Jackson is very cool, too! Very much boy names!
