Enamel Cast Iron Pot

I received a really nice enamel coated cast iron pot for Christmas. Problem is, I have zero idea how to use it! Can anyone help me?

I know I can go and research it. I was hoping for some tried and true recipes. I always feel like I'm sort of shooting in the dark if I just look up a recipe.

What can I do next?

You can use it for just about anything! There are several really good brands on the market now, but it used to only be Le Creuset who made the enameled cast iron pots. I am still SO in love with my flame-colored Le Creuset! You can use it stove-top for any type of stew or soup. Use it to brown meats (excellent heat conductor for this) -and they transfer from stove top to oven as well, so you can bake chicken and meat in it if you want! I use mine most often for pot roasts, whole roast chicken, Brunswick stew, soups and big pots of beans or greens that simmer for a long time. Honestly -you can cook just about anything in them and use them just as you would a regular cast iron pot or a stainless steel pot.

Hi Shaun, I LOVE my Le Creuset pots. I use one of them just about everyday.
Soups, stews, braising, fish (puttanesca a family fav with halibut), sauces.

If you are lookinf for awesome specific recipes go to Food Network.com and look up Ina Garten. I watch her show daily and she uses her cast iron enamel very often. She a guru!

Enjoy!

Is it a dutch oven? If so, you can pretty much use it for anything! I am a huge fan of America's Test Kitchen, and they use a pot like that for nearly every recipe. They have a website where you can get this season's recipes for free, or you can sign up for the membership and get access to all of their recipes, or you can order cookbooks. According to the show, a good pot like yours is essential kitchen equipment. Try out some of their recipes. What I like best about them is that each recipe is tested hundreds of times to ensure that it is foolproof for the home cook. Plus, they show pictures and explain cooking techniques. I've never gone wrong with anything I've made from there.

I got one too! Sounds like you are talking about a Dutch Oven. You can cook with it on the stovetop and then pop it in the oven. I made an awesome pot roast in mine a few weeks ago. Here's the recipe:

If you are willing to experiment, go to Allrecipes.com and use dutch oven in the keyword area. Then sort your recipes by best reviews. I've had great luck with that.

I used mine as a slow cooker instead of a crock pot, so I make stews, pot roast, swiss steak, anything that needs to be cooked slowly over many hours.

I have a whole set that I use as regular cookwear. They're great on the stovetop or in the oven. They do get hotter, faster on the stove, so keep your burners lower and stir often until you get used to it. Enjoy!

I cook everything in mine. I love it!
You can do stove top or throw it in the oven.
It's great for soups, stews, beans. I make chicken and rice and all kinds of things in the oven with it.

Just make sure you have some good pot holders. My enamel cast iron has cast iron handles as well.
It cleans super easily as well.
Just try it out!

Best wishes!
