I'm thinking of having this done and am wondering if anyone has done this and what thier experiance is/was with it. Or who they had do it.
I'm 31yrs old. Were done having kids. My periods are bad but they aren't to the point that I'm screaming-take it all out! each time I got to that point I got pregnant. Otherwise I have been on the pill. But no longer feel that is a wise choice because of a very HIGH breast cancer risk that I fall into. I just know what road I'm heading down and think why deal with it for a year or plus when I can just have it done. Is there any other options? (Besides Hytorectomy,Pills)
I totally understand, I had REALLY heavy and painful periods since I was 12!
I had an endometrial ablation 12/20/07 and now I get a bit crampy (nothing like before) and spot, like 2 days with panty liners per month. And the pain/flow is getting lighter, too. I had mine done in the doctor's office, without any anesthesia. I am glad I had it done.

I had this procedure done 4 weeks ago; best thing I ever did. I had horrible bleeding (needless to say it ruined my sex life and every vacation we went on) and I am also a high school teacher so it was not good to have to rush out of class to change a tampon. I wanted to save my uterus (not ready to say bye to it and wanted the estrogen as well) and this was a great option.
One word of caution-I am 46 and done with kids, so it was okay for me, but if you want more kids or are still in your 30s; I don't know if I would recommend yet. I also had a tubal at the same time; my doc said one of us needed to be sterilized so it was me. Anyway, so far no periods and I'm hoping for the best.

Why are you considering an ablation? How old are you, and are you absolutely sure you're finished having children? An ablation will cauterize the endometrium or uterine lining, and is usually done in perimenopausal women who have extremely heavy periods due to the natural imbalance that can occur as we approach menopause. Yes, I had an ablation; I was about 45 at the time and also had a large fibroid/myoma, so would have uncontrolled and heavy bleeding without any notice or prior indication, so there were several very bad and public bleeding incidences. My provider and I thought the ablation and removal of the myoma would be a good solution; however, I apparently also had undiagnosed endometriosis. I have always had extremely painful and difficult periods, but never the diagnosis of endometriosis. Post ablation, the bleeding episodes decreased, but the pain and discomfort increased each month until it was almost unbearable. I would absolutely discourage anyone who has a history of extremely painful periods from having an ablation. That said, if no endometriosis is present, an ablation will solve the bleeding problem.
