Hi L.,
So sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope you find resolution soon!
I had a D&C in 2006 due to abnormal menstuation. I had endometrial polyps that caused me to menstruate often and heavily. The doctor reported that one of the polyps "was the size of my fist". Just before the procedure I menstruated for three weeks in a row. After the procedure my periods were great, every 28 days to the day and normal. The pain and the flow reduced greatly. The procedure was minor as I experienced mild cramping the next day.
My friend had an ablation for her uterine fibroids. She also had much success with it. She researched her options well and selected the ablation. It was effective for her as her periods became normal again too. Her recovery was longer then a D&C but her situation called for it. The D&C would not have helped her as her situation was concerning.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your decision and Happy New Year.
