Escapee of Car Seat

Does anyone know of any car seats that have an added security measure at the chest buckle...I am looking for something like a child lock type mechanism. My daughter can take her buckle off and wiggle out and it is driving me crazy...I can't take her anywhere because she says "buckle off" then escapes. I have changed her seat a few times and it takes her a couple off weeks to figure it out...but all it takes is one time then she has it down packed. I have taped the enclosure and that works, but then it takes me forever to get her back in and out. I did some research and found a company that has "child-proof" harnesses that buckle in the back, but she needs to still be in a seat.
Thanks :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice...I got an industrial strength velcro pack from Wal-Mart ($3) and it has worked like a charm. About the police officer/fire dept. my husband is a police officer so she loves them and is not indimidated...which is a wonderful thing because she knows at any time she can approach an officer for help and saftey which all the guys/gals at the department want!! :)

Wow Melissa...You've got your hands ful!
Only thing i can think of right now is them cabinet closures they look like a Big U and have a locking placer to set where it needs to be. you can also let her know that you are going to tighten the bottom part in order for her not to get out and you will make her uncomfortable until she stops!
you can take her to fire station and put alittle scare in her too.
The fire fighters willt alk with her and let her know that is it important to keep it on and teach her a few things to be happy in the seat. Maybe you can try to get her mind off her seat by giving her a book, toy or even place a Portable DVD player in car for her to watch something too. We have 2 one in each car and my girls love it but of course my daughters do not try and get out neither. Hope this helps! Call your local Fire Dept. and ask them can you come down and they can talk to you directly but her as a indirect way to stay safe. Only good things for Our Children.

One thing some techs recommend is a piece of the rough side of velcro. I remember seeing it at Babies R Us at one point. It hurts their little fingers to push on it but it shouldn't bother you.

Wow, that is scary. I had a friend who had trouble with her son trying to open the car door after he escaped! I'd also recommend getting a child lock on the back doors so that cannot happen.

You run into an issue of being able to get her out quickly in case of an accident or else I would suggest a padlock or some such system.

I agree that visiting the firestation and really talking to her would be great ideas. Children do understand at an early age and a reward/penalty system has always worked well with us.

Please follow up with us and let me know what happens. You can write me at ____@____.com as well. I wish you well!

I had to have a stern talk with both of my kids (now 3 & 4 1/2) about car seat safety. When the older one did this the first time I got very serious (a voice I don't use often) and explained as best I could to a 2 year old that he cannot do this and explained the safety issue. He understood, but he did test me a couple of time, and when he tried it again, I would pull over as soon as I could. I think my seriousness paid off, becuase it wasn't an issue for too long. I don't remember it ever being an issue with the younger one, but her buckle secures a little different and may be harder to un-do. Both kids have the Britax Marathon, but the younger one has a newer model and the buckle that secures at the chest is a little different.

Good luck!!

I have twin boys that both would unstap while driving. I talked til I was blue in the face. Eventually, I would tell them I needed to find a police officer. (Luckily, you see them at every street corner just about.) That scared them enough that they stopped. And now they are always on the lookout for policemen. They are now almost 5 now and are at an age that they understand safety. It will pass, but be firm. Good luck, R.

My mom read an article in the paper about this Angel Guard buckle cover. I am not sure if they have something that will work with the buckle you need protected, but I Googled it to find this page here about it:
http://www.mypreciouskid.com/seat-belt-cover-angel-guard....

I also found this forum discussing the same thing (scroll down the page): http://parents.berkeley.edu/advice/safety/carseat_unbuckl...
From what I read there, if you have a Britax, you can get some sort of chest buckle cover, but I can't find it on the website. So, if you have a Britax, you may want to email or call the company about it.

Good luck!
