I am looking at birth control methods, have tried everything. I am now looking at permanent. This procedure is fairly new has anyone had it performed or know anyone that has had the procedure? What are your thoughts, I am very torn. I had the Mirena, lost weight and all my hair disappeared. I definitely can't go through these changes again. My husband is not open to a vasectomy, which he should considering all that I have been through. Need help.

What can I do next?

I had a tubal done 7 years ago. I can ONLY suggest MAKE SURE that you dont want any more children EVER. When I did my PERMANENT TL, I just didnt want children with the man I was married to.

A few years later, I remarried my first husband and high school sweetheart, also with whom we share a child with. He never had any other children, and I underwent a tubal reversal surgery. Both tubes ended up blocked and had to be removed, forever changing our natural conception chances. WE had to to undergo IVF to get pregnant.

Make sure that this procedure wont change your mind several years down the road with other situations.

Also my tubal gave me several side effects...depression, the worst men cramps, lengthened my cycles from 4 days to 7 days of heavy flow, angry, etc..among other side effects.

If you choose to have a tubal..please research Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. It is REAL!

And if you have ANY bit of REGRET before the surgery, DONT do it.

I had a tubal done at the same time i had a c-section. If you are looking for something permanent, i would seriously talk about it for a while and make sure this is what you want. I thought that we had, now my baby is 17 months and there are times we wish we could have just one more (although we cant because of medical reasons, which is why i had it done), it is hard there are times that i think he would be happy with someone else who could give him another baby that he wants (i know he wouldnt do that, it is just a thought, like some others we think, and dont mention). So please be sure this is what you want, sorry i know this is none of my buisness, but the vasectomy would be quicker, less painfull, and quicker recovery time, then what you would have to go through, why wont he have it done?? My hubby wanted to do it for me since i had to go through so much already, but we have no med insurance on him, and i told him no since i was already ganna be sliced open. Im sorry if i over stepped!! Good Luck in your decision, hope everything works out for you and your family!!

I was looking into either essure or tubal but opted for paraguard after talking to my ob. Paraguard lasts 10 yrs, has no hormones, requires no pain meds or anethesia and, if placed properly, takes effect immediately. Essure isn't done by all Drs and, from what I read, really should be done outpatient with sedation. It takes several months to take effect as well.

I had the Essure done July '07. It has been wonderful. Most of the OB/GYNs that perform it are very educated in the procedure and well qualified. I was excited because it is chemical and hormone free and permanent. I was sold after hearing my very own OB/GYN on the radio endorsing and advertising it. Go to the website for more info and ask your dr all your questions and concerns. The dr's office knows how to prequalify it for insurance purposes. Most insurances would rather pay for this than a tubal ligation, due to lower risk, less invasive, and fewer people involved (no outpatient surgical fees, anestesia dr, lab fees...). Feel free to ask me anything. I'll answer anything that I can.

I had the essure tubal done in 2006. It was a piece of cake. Hardly any pain afterward. I didn't even have to take the pain meds my dr prescribed. Just send me a msg and let me know what kind of info you want.

I did some online research about it and I think it is a good thing--easy procedure and very effective. I also think tubal ligation is ok--easy day surgery and little recovery time. That is what I am looking into-the tubal. Good Luck.

I'm a cancer survivor. I am so sorry that you have not found a method of birth control that does not have aweful side effects. I cannot use chemical birth control because of my history, and I morally have recently decided it does not match with my beliefs. At the same time, I don't want 12 kids! My husband and I went to classes in Natural Family Planning. The rate of pregnancy is the same as the pill with proper training, less than 1%. With my own education about using natural progesterone to regulate my cycle (to better predict times of fertility), we definitely are not going to have 12 kids!

My husband and I are closer now than ever, enjoy our physical relationship more and have a better understanding of each others bodies, needs, desires, etc. We were scared at first, but, now that we're informed, are so glad we went this route.

The classes only cost $35 for materials and are offered through most catholic churches through an organization called the Couple to Couple League. We are not catholic, but have friends that are that suggested it. www.ccli.org. I'd love to give you the name/number of the couple that taught our classes.

Because I believe so strongly in this method and in families being better educated about women's health, cycles, and progesterone's role in preventing cancer, I have convinced my ob/gyn to do a free seminar at our church in April or May. If you want details on the seminar or a chance to listen to a call that I recorded for a quick summary, I would love to talk to you in person or over the phone.

Blessings, and good luck to you in your choices,
L. ###-###-####

I don't mean to pick on your husband, but if you guys are certain you are done having babies, then he would really have a justified reason he couldn't have a vasectomy. I think if he wanted to have sex with me then he could have it done !LOL or it is condom city for him and I would even make him buy them!

I don't have anything to offer you on the Essure b/c. It is really new and I would probably wait unless a doctor I trusted really had a lot of good to say about it.

I hate that you had bad time with your Mirena.. I love mine. There is the Paraguard IUD and it has no hormones...just a thought..

Good luck to you..
