Etsy or Ebay or Website

I love etsy. I buy off there all the time. I love the quality of the work and the wonderful sellers. The prices are fair and the shipping is reasonable.

I think that Ebay is way overrated now. Nothing ever seems legit and its all overpriced...It used to by yardsale prices on everything from clothes to cars and now things seem priced higher than retail...

I have been selling wedding products on Ebay for years and do pretty well. It's great for reaching a huge audience. I would think you could do better on Etsy though as your handmade items will get "lost" on Ebay and be more sought after on a hand made site like Etsy. I would not open a webstore on your own just yet, start small. I have a website but honestly make a lot more money on Ebay, it is very difficult to get consistent traffic without spending a lot of money. As you grow you could build a site and direct people there from Etsy but just building the website would be a full time job for a while at least and you still need to make the clothes. Start small and pay attention to what your customers want. My enitre business came from making pressed flower candles for favors and unity sets when I wanted to stay home with my girls about 12 years ago. I still sell my handmade items but now resell hundreds of other products too. Just keep responding to what your customers are asking for and think outside the box. Good Luck!

I love Etsy! People are looking specifically for hand made or vintage, so you're getting straight to your target market. Let Etsy handle that part of your marketing filter. Good luck!

I sell on Etsy and also have my own website. I do get business from my website but mainly because I am in the invitation business and my website is on the back of every invitation. So I would not recommend the website just yet since you are just starting out, it is definitely an investment, has to be maintained and you will probably not see a lot of traffic coming threw with your line of business. If you wanted a website I would probably just do a free blog for now. I also do Facebook and that is another great (free) avenue.

I know people to have both an etsy/artfire account and a main site. They use the etsy as an advertisement to the main site. A well dressed bullet is a great example:

Etsy is famous, for crafters and Artisans, for selling their products.
I have bought things from there. I love that site.

If you have your own website: you have to find a provider for e-commerce... and a website that supports that. And a website designer/developer if you do not have that knowledge.
Simple generic templates, will not do that.
And you will have to manage your website and have technical knowledge of that.
Having your own website, costs money.

Etsy and E-bay, already have those 'traits' at the ready, for subscribers/sellers. Per their websites which sellers use, for selling their wares.
Of course, it is not free.
It is a business.
