Ever Get Choked up by a Kid Book?

I was just answering a post about animal death and recomended City Dog Country Frog by Mo Willems. It reminded me of when I first skimmed through the book while sitting in my son's room. Luckily my children were downstairs at the time because it made me blubber like a baby! There's also the ending of This Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown that I can't seem to get through without getting choked up. Total sap, I know. What kid books affect you like this? Or do they at all?

What can I do next?

I think it is beautiful, but my mom thinks it is creepy that the mother climbed a ladder to enter her grown son's bedroom :-)

If Love you Forever is the book about the Mom rocking her son into adulthood then the son rocking his very elderly Mother and then his new baby... yes it really teared me up.

Many kids books tear me up, must be normal for Moms to take things more sentimentally or to heart.

My SIL bought me the one "Love you Forever". I refuse to read it to my children because I can't get through it. My mom also bought one for my daughter called "Tummy Girl" which is about growing up which took me at least 5-6 times reading before I could do it without crying.

My husband says "i'll love you forever" is emotional terrorism. He hates books that are written for the sole purpose of making mommies melt. I tell him he's heartless. :)

For me it's been more about times of reading books that have brought me to tears. The other day my 2 1/2 year old read me "The Very Hungry Catapillar" She didn't read it so much as have most of the book memorized. It brought me to tears because of how cute she was and how quickly she is growing up. There are some books that are just amazing aren't there?

I'm sorry, Love You Forever is cheesy AND creepy. Also, I don't like repeated phrases, I don't like the illustrations, and it is trying too hard to be sentimental. It's like the end of a perfectly otherwise fine movie (that's a Comedy or something) trying to make you feel that "warm and fuzzy" feeling at the end (it's OUT OF PLACE!)... except its the whole book. LOL:)

NOW, The Giving Tree is WAAAAAAY more meaningful, but didn't make me cry. I think once I got a sore feeling in my throat, though.

Another I'll love you forever here. Although, it's not every time I read it. But the first time I heard it was at someone else's baby shower and I bawled!

The one that gets to me EVERY TIME is Where the Red Fern Grows. It never fails, and I read it over and over and over. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

"The Giving Tree" chokes me up! I bawled the other night trying to read it to my 5 year old.

"Old Turtle" is a beautiful book, but for some reason I get choked up over it.

One of my all-time favorite Christmas books EVER is "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" and I always cry at the end (and it's a kid book -I remember getting misty-eyed in second grade when they read it to us and I still do).

The absolute worst though is "The Littlest Angel" -my mother gave it to me as a child and it made me cry then! Just thinking of it makes me tear up. It doesn't help now that I have two precious little blonde boys who look like the little boy angel on the cover of my copy. Sometimes I mist up when I find my five-year old's "stash" box of special rocks and little things he finds special (this is part of the book) -I guess that book flat-out warped me!

Karen Kingsbury's book Let Me Hold You Longer. About a mother looking back in her son's life and thinking of all the lasts (last time rocked good night, last time holding him, last time cheering him on at football, last high school dance) and how if she had known she would have held on to that last. I cry every single time I read it to my son!

I ended up buying a copy of "Spider Sisters" for both of my sisters as well as for my girls. I still can't read it without crying.

It just talks about how the older sister is so good to her little sister and will not go to a party if the sister is not invited. Love my sisters, but my oldest daughter is so NOT kind to her little sister!

"Missing May" by Cynthia Rylant.
It's for older kids, 9-12. I bought it for my daughter and read it first, I couldn't put it down.
My son, who is 9 years younger, read it and it's such a wonderful story, but he cried at the end too.
I've shared this book with my sister, with my father before he passed away.
It's a wonderful story of love and rememberance and very uplifting in it's way.
