My child has Excema in her scalp and she is scratching so much she is causing her hair to fall out in that spot. Can anyone tell me what to do? I have heard to use dandruff shampoo but, I have also heard it makes some kids hair fall out. thoughts?

What can I do next?

Well, IMHO, if her hair is falling out already, that raises a red flag to me that the dandruff shampoo getting blamed for kids' hair falling out might be a fallacy. ;)
Regardless, have you tried an elimination diet with her? Excema is a common symptom of food allergy or intolerance i.e. dairy. The trick is that total elimination of a suspected culprit should be employed. There's a lot of hidden dairy out there (lunch meats, bread, medicines, chips, candy, pasta sauce, etc.) and it can take from two to four weeks for consumed dairy protein to clear the system.
Also, dandruff shampoo, as well as pH regulated products for the 'no-tear' feature, can be pretty drying. Aside from just not washing your child's hair everyday, you might have good results trying something for cradle cap, either a special shampoo for it (found in the baby wash area of the store, I've heard Badger Balm is a good one) or plain ol' olive oil and (soak for a few minutes and do some gentle scrubbing). Follow up with a *careful* application of some good, adult shampoo for color-treated hair, and you might see improvement.
HTH & best wishes!

I have heard the same thing, but for me I did not want to use adult dandruff shampoo on my baby. I mean can you imagine what is in that stuff, and what if it got in their eyes... ouch! Luckily I shop with a wellness company whose products are completely safe around and on babies, and are proven to relieve and remove signs of eczema or other skin conditions. Just my $.02, but I would want to use safe, natural products on my baby, not a shampoo like that... Let me know if you would be interested in looking at their products!

My daughter had that too. Her hair did come out when I scrubbed it with the dandruff shampoo, but that was from the skin sloughing off not the shampoo. These were instructions from pediatrician and solved the problem.

We have this issue all the time. Dandruff shampoos are good. Also talk to your dermatologist. They have a special medicine to put on their scalp to stop the itching and heal the scalp. They also have an over the counter product called scalp something (I cannot remember the name). I also use Desonide cream. It is a prescription cream for eczema. My son has eczema really bad (to the point of getting bacillia serous (A serous bacterial infection). This cream is the best stuff ever and very cheap! I think w/o insurance it is $10 for 2 tubes! I put this on both of my children and just rub it in their scalp. It can make the hair a little greasy so I do it it at night or during the day when we are going out. Also do not wash your child's hair every day. This can dry out the scalp.

Hope this helps!
