Hello Fellow Mamasourcers!
My 2 year old has really bad excema and I feel so bad for her. She has been suffering since she was 9 months old. It seems to get worse in the summer months, due to the heat and sweat. The poor thing just scratches all of time. I have tried everything from hydrocortisone creams, prescription creams to Aveeno and Aquaphor. Nothing at this point seems to work. Does anyone out there use anything that they just absolutely “swear” by? I am in need of some relief for my little girl. Please let me know what worked for you.

What can I do next?

I used 100% natural unprocessed shea butter everyday several times a day when my kids were that age. You can buy it on Ebay. Do not use anything on her skin that contains fragrance and make sure all her night clothes are 100% cotton.

This would be something you may want to read. You are just treating the symptoms by putting cream on him and the like. "You'll need to work with 'what' is causing the problem and elminate that. Here is something to get you started. This will start with food and possible allergies. The type cleaners you may have in your house (needs to be out of the house), etc.

I see that someone recommended Shea butter. I know they sell it in little five points, as well as five points near the underground. My 2 year old has eczema. I used to use shea butter, maybe i'll go back to it.Eucerin hasnt worked and using safe soaps hasnt worked.

Both my two and a half year old daughter and 6 month old son have eczema. Here is what we swear by:

Give them a bath every night with Aveeno Baby Fragrance Free Soothing Relief Creamy Wash. We use Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo for their hair. Make sure to bathe them every night. Anytime we skip a bath, we pay for it the next day. After the bath, we put Vaseline on their face and cover them liberally with Curel Continuous Comfort Fragrance Free Moisture Lotion. We wash all their clothes before they wear them and use All Free and Clear laundry detergent. If the clothes need some extra help, we use Oxiclean Free.

If we stick to this routine, their skin stays clear. If we deviate even a little (i.e. use a different lotion or someone else washes their clothes), the eczema comes right back. The most important steps for our children is to make sure they get a bath every night (Some people say you should bath children with eczema less frequently. This is not true. Eczema is exacerbated by bacteria. Therefore, the skin should be kept clean.) and to stay away from any product with fragrances in it. The only thing they use with fragrance is the shampoo, as I have been unable to find an affordable shampoo without fragrance in it.

Addition: I forgot to add that we dress them in all 100% cotton clothes. I am not really sure how big a difference this makes, as we don't put them in anything else, but I think it helps.
