I am a mother of 1 child and I workout in my basement. Right now I am looking for something that I can do to get out of the house. I don't want to pay for a gym membership and I am looking for classes that are not very expensive. I am looking for something like Zumba or some yoga pilates classes. I have no one to watch my child, so it would have to either be early in the morning or later in the evening or weekends. Any suggestions would be fabulous!

What can I do next?

Where I live the Y has all the classes you are looking for and they also have childcare. My membership is $50.00 per month and this includes childcare. Most of the classes are free with the membership.

Walking at the mall is great exercise! I go 3 or 4 times a week with my other mom friends and it's blast! Fox Valley mall is open at 8am and we do laps with our kids in the strollers. You should look into it!

If you want to do classes you can try the Naperville park district - I think their winter classes are starting soon! I did a step class a few years ago and it was good workout - it was at the elementary school by my house (nice and close!)

Good for you for working out :)

most gyms offer daycare...what about your park district. I know the fox valley park district offers cheap babysitting service while you remain in the building. I believe it is $2 per hour per kid. Also, they offer a guest membership for $8 a day. If you are concerned about committing to their membership fees that is the way to go.

I love to walk and jog. It's free and can be done most anywhere! Have you tried that? You can also find jog/all terrain strollers for good deals on Craigslist and ebay as well as garage sales and secondhand stores. Also look into the YMCA. Don't know if there is one near you, but many have gorgeous work-out facilities, pools and classes complete with childcare options (free) and they charge very little for membership.

Zumba is really great I love it and if your child is old enough maybe they could come to. It would be a fun thing you to do together maybe.

Now is a good time to introduce your child to fitness .. start with walking.. since my son who is now 9 was little, I have always taken him on city walks.. we explore the city and make it a learning situation. example, we would read street signs and learn how to pronounce the words. .additionally, on nature walks/hikes we learn about the flowers while at the same time , we are getting exercise. We figure that this entire year (mostly in the Summer) we averaged about 5 miles or more a day and have therefore walked/hikes over 300 miles.. sounds unlikely, but it is true.. the 5 miles a day does add up and on some occasions, we did/do about 7 to 10... again, that was mostly in the Summer when my son was out of school..
Start out small, but walking is a great way to get exercise. Get a pedometer and you can track how many miles you walk...
best of luck

Check and see if there is a Stroller Strides near you, it is an awesome workout and you get to bring your child along, providing they are young enough to stay in the stroller. :)
