I've read great reviews from mommy bloggers about G Diapers. Has anyone tried them?

What can I do next?

I flooded my upstairs bathroom which then leaked through the floor into my kitchen leaving gel balls all over everything because I "flushed" too soon before I "swooshed" with the swizzle stick thingy...that ended my gdiaper experience.

Hi! We just bought some for my son he is trying one out today. I'll let you know how it goes. We also like babysoft wrap cloth diapers. They have a snap in soaker that you take out and change instead of changing the entire diaper.

Hi G.,

I would not recommend g diapers. I really tried to like them, but I just couldn't. I bought 2 starter kits and an extra bag of inserts and I still have most of the bag left. The idea is good, but they are a pain. Think of it this way...they are like pads without sticky backs. They shift and bunch and end up making a mess. They are way more expensive than disposables and so much more work than cloth diapers. The covers themselves are very cute and I like the design of them, but the whole system is not all it's cracked up to be. I switched to cloth full time about 6 months ago and would never go back to either the g diapers or disposable. If you're interested in them for the environmental benefits, just go right to cloth. I promise you, cloth is so much easier and way less expensive. I also recommend that you pick up the latest issue of Mothering Magazine. It's the "Cloth Diaper Comeback" issue with most, if not all, of the information you will need to cloth diaper.

I'm using G Diapers as a back-up to my cloth diapers. I like the fact that the inserts are compostable and flushable. However, if you have a septic, like we do, I don't know if you would want to flush them. We live on 10.5 acres and compost so I do compost the pee diapers, otherwise I throw away the poop diapers. I find that travelling with them is tough. The inserts don't fit around the legs that well and so its easy to get both the plastic and the cloth outer diaper dirty. I've only started using them since my daughter has started solids and had more solid poops. I personally wouldn't use them while she's breastfeeding exclusively, the poops are way too runny, I would imagine...but I can' speak from experience there.

My favorite is definitely the cloth diapers. I use BumGenius and they're great! It's an expensive first time investment but totally worth it. I probably spend about $700 but haven't had to buy any other diapers since. They hold liquid/breastmilk poops and solid poops the best. Good luck!

I thought they sounded great but they really did not work for us. The plastic and cloth liners would get soiled with EVERY watery, poopy infant diaper and they clogged our non-septic toilets almost every time. We switched to disposables. Good luck! Chances are whatever diaper you use will take a little trial and error and will change as your baby grows from size to size.

Hi G.,
I tried G-diapers when my son was an infant, and I liked them. However, I switched to cloth diapers soon after. If you want to use something else than disposables, I recommend cloth diapers. The G's work fine and it is a better option than disposables, but you have to flush the diapers and use the stick to dissolve it in the toilet, so that is a little bit of a hassle. And you still have to wash the covers just like with cloths. So I just found using cloth diapers easier. Good cloth diaper brand is Imse Vimse. You can order online or buy them (and everything else you need) at this awesome store Hatched in Jamaica Plain (www.hatchedboston.com). I totally recommend it. Good luck!

I have not heard great things...I am also expecting my first and plan to use 7th generation, then cloth. The G diapers are complicated and time-consuming. If I'm going to all that trouble, I'd rather use cloth.

We've been using G diapers pretty much since our 10 month old was born and we really like them. They are definitely an investment: they are more work than disposables (I can't speak for cloth), more expensive, and a poopy diaper (particularly for a breastfed only baby) can be pretty intense. But at the end of the day, I do feel like we're doing our small part every time we flush the diaper and I love that there's no diaper smell coming out of the garbage cans.

I haven't tried them, but looked into them... great concept.. BUT they have a huge disclosure about septic tanks... I wasn't about to risk my septic! :)

Check out Bum Genius - they are great - we use those (and I also sell them) - but they are really great - there are a bunch on the market similar too.

Hi- I used G diapers for my son from about 4 or 5 months old until potty training (@18mos). I loved them mostly because they are pretty good for the environment, also because they are super cute! And yes I like putting the poop in the potty! They are more "work" than a disposable diaper- and I'm not sure how they stand up to all those newborn blow outs? The G diaper website is really informational-and yes you need to watch the video on how to put them on! Good luck.

We use g diapers in conjunction with cloth... that is, we used cloth exclusively until our daughter was about 4 months, and then went on a weekend trip and i didn't want to do disposables while away, so we tried g's. i liked them and decided that they were a great alternative when we're out of the house all day and bringing home a bunch of dirty cloth diapers would be a pain... our daughter is 18 mos now and we still use cloth at home and g's when we're out or when she's at daycare. i prefer cloth, and although i'm sure disposables are easier i don't find either cloth or g's to be that much of a pain... if you want to discuss our experiences with different kinds of cloth diapers you're welcome to email me!

When we first started the g's there were some leakage issues but that was due to our improper fastening..Since then there have been no problems. I love being able to flush the diapers! They are a bit pricey but definitely worth it. Good luck!
ps: we use regular disposables at night

I have heard they are a major pain, and expensive. If you are interested in cloth diapers, I have heard that Bum Genius makes a great cloth diaper that is more cost effective.

I was very excited to try G-diapers, but was very disappointed and would not recommend them. They leaked a lot and I found I had to wash them so often I may as well have used cloth. The cost is also a lot more than disposables. I just switched to cloth when my baby was 8 months and I wish I had done it earlier. It is just as easy to wash cloth diapers as it is g-diapers and MUCH cheaper. We use Bum Genius and have many fewer leaks than with g-diapers.

G-diapers did flush well into our city sewer and never clogged. I've also read that you can compost them, if you do that. Good luck with your decisions!
