Experience with Tubal Ligation?

I am considering getting a tubal ligation in conjunction with my C-Section next month. Is anyone willing to share your experience with this surgery? I will discuss thoroughly with my OB, but am looking for personal experiences first to help guide my questions to him. I am curious about if you felt the recovery took longer than a regular C-Section and if you had any bad side effects, physically or emotionally. I have heard about PTLS and am wondering if that is for real. If you could go back and do it again, would you rather your DH have the vasectomy instead? I am already 35 and will have a son and a daughter, so I am sure this is a good size for our family. Thank you.

What can I do next?

I had a tubal in Sept of 06. It was my 3rd c-section, and I didn't notice any difference in recovery. I also have not had any side effects, and had never heard of PTLS before your post (had to look that one up!). I'm glad I didn't actually, because I could see how you could easily talk yourself into having it (who doesn't have mood swings/heavy periods at least sometimes?)! If I had to do it again, I would. It seemed easier for me to have that done while having the c-section then have my husband get 'fixed'. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I am doing the same thing as you J.. I have one little girl who will be 2 end of January and am pregnant with a baby boy due mid April. My doctor and I have talked about this from the moment I got pregnant. I do not enjoy pregnancy, it is very hard on my body and mentally/emotionally. And two babies is all we wanted to make our family complete. I think it is a sign from above that we will have a boy and a girl. That makes it even more easy to have my tubes tied. And while I'm having my csection, I might as well be the one who is doing it, instead of having hubby go through the down time and surgery and the expense with it all. I don't know what PTLS is, I'm going to look it up. Thanks for asking this question, it's good to hear from the other moms.

I had a tubal after my 4th c-section. I have never noticed any difference with anything. I am still having dh get a vasectomy too because I always seem to meet someone who still got pregnant after a tubal 0: so I want double precaution.
I was a bit blue the first few months about never having any more kids but I think a lot of that was post pardum blues and just closing the chapter in my life. 4 is beyond plenty for us!
If I had to go back, I would still do it.

Hi, I am also 35 and had a tubal after a C-section 2 1/2 years ago. I noticed nothing out of the ordinary while recovering from both procedures at once. I have enjoyed it for the most part not having to worry about taking the pill. The only drawback is that I do have more PMS symptoms than I did before when I was on the pill. Mostly headaches a day or so before actually starting. But that could just be me and won't concern you at all. I would definitely recommend doing it, it will be much easier you doing it this way than having your husband have to go through the vasectomy.
