Extremly Quick Not Messy Breakfast for Toddlers

Hey all! Well I've lost my job again (curse you economy!) And so that means I have to take my son to school with me for the last 10 weeks or until I can find a job. (I'm on states assistance for day care and I have to have 15 hours or work a week in order to qualify for it)
I have to get get rides with my parents because I don't have a car. They leave at 6:30 and I can't wake up before 5:30 to get ready and make breakfast (I've tried). Normally the day care would feed him, and I'd give him a graham cracker or a banana to hold him over till he ate at 8. So I need good ideas for breakfasts for on the go. He's not a toast fan, loves bananas and other most fruits. I'm thinking breakfast bars, but I don't want to give him that much sugar or calories period. Right now I have some Cliff Jr. bars since they had the best nutritional value that I could see. What do you all suggest? He does loves waffles. . . Maybe I could make a bunch on Sunday and freeze them, then pop them in the toaster. . . I dunno.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

hahaha! Not messy as in no liquids, on the go and as little clean up as possible.
K•R•5318 That is so my son too. If he doesn't get food almost as soon as he wakes up, all hell breaks loose!! lol

I didn't know there was such a thing. A meal for a toddler that isn't messy. Maybe it's just my daughter...

I make muffins in batches and freeze them. I use whole wheat flour, always add some pureed veggies or fruit and don't add a lot of sugar. My son loves them and I can just pull one out of the freezer and pop it into the toaster oven while we are getting ready and he can eat it on the way out the door.

I make batches of pancakes (or waffles) and freeze them like you suggested they work great. My daughter also loves morningstar vegetarian breakfast sausage links which gives her protein. Good meal that tides her over.

The Gogurt (yogurt the kids suck out of the tube) are also good. I always have them in the fridge for those mornings when I don't have the extra minute to heat the pancake and sausage. She eats it in the car a lot of the time and it (usually) isn't too messy).

I also make dry cereal snack mix and keep it stocked (I actually mix up at least 3 to 4 servings sunday night and either put it in ziplock or tupperware so I have a snack for on the go for the week) Cheerios is always my base (but any nonsugary cereal will do). Raisins. Goldfish. sometimes colored marshmallows or something a little sweet like a few M&M's or fruit snacks.

Applesauce (or cut fresh fruit) and string cheese is another easy on the go staple in my household.

I forgot Apples. Easiest Breakfast ever.

Hope this helps.

for some reason my kids both love dry cereal with a cup of milk...strange but they wont mix the two i cant tell you how many morning we were rushing to day care and he was in the back seat with a sippy cup of milk and baggie of cheerios....because he wouldnt wake up early in the morning and youd think if he didnt eat within 20 minutes of waking up he was going to die

Yeah, I was going to suggest waffles. My kids even just eat them plain and whole, like a big cookie or something. Even easier than dealing with syrup! You could also make a breakfast trail mix (cheerios, dried fruit, etc).

Good luck, I hope things settle down for you!!

My toddler loves the Gerber yogurt melts and the fruit adn veggie melts. They are not very messy and they're yummy! They are a bit pricey though. Why not just give him some dry cereal in a baggie and a sippy cup of milk? That would be easy. Another thing I've tried is Gogurt Simple, I buy it for my older kids but I discovered that I could also feed it to my toddler with less mess than spoon feeding! The only trouble is if he tries to grab it and feed himself, then it gets very messy! Good luck to you, I hope you can find a new job soon!

Oh, and for frozen waffles, we LOVE Kashi Go Lean Strawberry Flax waffles! They are super tasty and healthy, they have fiber and protein and healthy fat from the flax seed.

Like the others have said, pancakes or waffles. Make them with different fruits or yogurts added or even instant oatmeal. It makes them want to eat them with no syrup so they can eat them in the car. Dry cereal in a baggie, bagels, breakfast sandwiches--my kids fav is sausage or bacon inside of a pancake folded over.

I am in the same boat with morning rushes. I premake my daughter's breakfasts at night. I take strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, chopped apples, etc. and seperate them into about 15 snack baggies and freeze them. I take out a bag every couple of nights to thaw out. I take one bag and blend it with some of that baby oatmeal powder and a baby yogurt until the consistency is thick enough to not get everywhere. I put it in two tupperware containers. That's two breakfasts a baggy--four weeks total--about 20-30 bucks a month depending on the cost of fruit and she loves it. Brain food!

Eggo waffles - they make all sorts of yummy varieties that are flavored so you don't need syrup or anything. My kids love the cinnamon french toaster sticks.

Cliff Jr. bars? Have you tasted them? Haha! My kids won't touch them with a ten foot pole, and neither would I! Just giving you a hard time by the way.
I completely understand the necessity of a breakfast on the go (who has time to scramble eggs in the morning?). I buy the peanut butter cracker packs to give in the car on the way to daycare, no sugar (besides carbs), and a little protein to get the day started. Easy, no prep.

buy waffles or pancakes from the frozen section of the store. i know, you think you could make them cheaper, but you have to ask yourself whether you will really take the time to do it. i often slice apples, pears, or nectarines the night before and put them in ziploc baggies. you can do the same with carrot stick, cheerios, whatever. cheese sticks are a staple in my home as well.
