Hello! I am new to the Dallas area and my daughter needs eye muscle surgery. She has been to Dr. Catherine Chen in Allen who recommended she wear glasses but that just made the problem worse but she was very nice and cautious to try other methods before surgery. We went for a second opinion to Dr. David Weakley at Children's and he was not personable at all and asked why we even wasted our time with the glasses. He immediately recommended surgery and she is scheduled to have surgery in early August. Have you all had any experience with these doctors? We are limited with our choices because my daughter has CHIP because my husband is in school and we are just here temporarily. This will be my daughter's second eye surgery - her first was at Duke University which we absolutely loved. Thanks for any insights!

My 5-year-old daughter had strabismus surgery when she was 3 also. We went to Dr. Weakley once and had a horrible experience with his residents in the clinic (and Dr. Weakley wasn't much better). It was important to us to have a doctor who was compassionate, personable, and able to communicate effectively. We didn't really find that with Dr. Weakley or his staff. We were so angry about our experience that we even related the incident to the VP of Children's Medical Center (my husband was on a parents involvement board of Children's at the time). We never went back. It does surprise me what he said that about wearing glasses though. A colleague's daughter saw him for lazy eye, and glasses and patches were his treatment plan for her. However, Dr. Weakley does have a reputation as being one of the best pediatric eye surgeons in Dallas. That's why we went to him originally after a recommendation from a retina specialist.

We ended up having Dr. Joel Leffler in Plano do her surgery at Plano Presby. Dr. Leffler has privileges at Childrens but only performs the surgery at Plano Presby. Dr. Leffler had seen my daughter originally in the NICU, and we have been extremely satifisfied with her care and his willingness to take his time with his patients. He sees my daughter regularly every 6 months now. I am not sure if he takes CHIP though. Good Luck!

I take my daughter to Dr. George Beauchamp in Grapevine. His daughter also has an office in Dallas. Her name is Cynthia Beauchamp. Dr. Beauchamp saved my daughter's vision. She had amblyopia & wore an eye patch for about 1 yr and now all she needs is glasses. Please see his website www.popacas.com.

He is great with my daughter and his office staff is awesome. He is very detail oriented and will make sure your daughter will receive the best treatment and he will choose the treatment plan that will provide your daughter with the best outcome. I know Grapevine is a drive but I don't mind making the trek from Murphy because he is a excellent doctor.

We use Dr. Eric Packwood and absolutely love him! He has been my daughter's doctor since she was 6 months, and she is now 10. Although he is on the Ft. Worth side, he is worth the drive for us. He is a skilled surgeon and is also personable and will take the time to listen and answer questions. I do not have experience with either of the other 2 doctors you listed, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Packwood. We trust him immensely.
