I have a 10 year old and he is starting to get some blemishes on his face. When I was a kid, my mom took me to the clinique counter and I got a quick education on skin care. I don't think he will be as comfortable as I was. I have shared my clinique product with him, but it doesn't seem to do much for him. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might work best?
My brother had skin problems, and my mother took him to a dermatologist. But this is what she recommends, http://www.mychelleusa.com/index.php?l=product_detail&.... It's a line of chemical free products. She said to try the clear skin serum. Good luck!

I teach skin care and use Mary Kay products. I would suggest him trying the Velocity Skin Care line and the Acne Treatment Gel. All Mary Kay products are 100% guaranteed, if for any reason it does not work you can exchange it or receive a refund. I have seen amazing results. If you are interested you can contact me at ###-###-#### or ###-###-####. You may also visit my website at www.marykay.com/dbehan. Now is an excellent time for him to learn about good skin care.

It happens. It happened to all my children. I'd go to a dermatologist if you want to get thorough answers, but don't let them sell you expensive treatments.
Maybe a trip to Chamberline's first might help.
I do know a great dermotologist in Oviedo area..which I found after going to a very bad one.

I have a 12 year old daughter and I tried clinique with her and it did not work. I started her on a program with Mary Kay that consists of a Velocity Cleanser, Moisturizer, Blemish control toner and acne treatment gel. In all in costs $42 plus tax and is a 6 month supply. Her face has cleared up and I now have several of her classmates on the same products. I have some great before and after pictures as well as instruction sheets. I am a Registered Nurse and do some talks on hygeine and caring for me geared towards tweens and teens. I am also an independant Mary Kay Beuaty Consultant. I would be happy to help you in any way that I can.

Hi K.,
my name is S. too am a mom of 3 boys and am a local BeautiControl Consultant in Pensacola. We have skincare, spa treatments and Cosmetics and my son who is now 12 went through the same thing. At that age it is hard to get them to use alot of anything.Let alone to take a shower with out having a hassle over it haha.Anyway, he has been using for the last 2 years our All Clear body wash which is great for those blemishes on their face as well as on their body. It costs only $15 for the bottle. For boys at that age this would be your best choice, and it doesn't smell girly:)If you have any questions feel free to let me know.
Hi K.. I know that this may seem like a sales pitch, but I assure you it is not. I have a 9 yr old who dances and she has major problems with blackheads already because they tap and then use the same floor for jazz, acro, etc. She is constantly touching her face which does not help. I am a consultant for The Body Shop at Home(The Body Shop store that you see in malls all over the world is our parent company), so I have easy access to skincare products. I use the Tea Tree Oil products on her face and they work wonders. The Tea Tree Blackhead minimizer really helps. I have many moms that have started using this on their kids too. The nice thing is that it is a natural product so no harsh chemicals are on hier face. I would highly recommend the Tea Tree for your son. If you are at all interested, you can order right from my site and it will be shipped directly to you. We have a starter kit available and it is a great way to try the product without investing a large amount of money. Please let me know if you have any questions at all about the product. www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/mmarcic Good luck in whatever you decide!

Have him wash his face in the morning and at night with a bar of Lava soap, it takes away every single blimish overnight! I use it daily and have not had a blimish in over 20 years now! Sounds harsh to the skin, but it is not! Just make sure he puts Curel lotion onto his face after washing it with the Lava soap so it doesn't dry out too much. I promise you it works fast and the blimishes don't come back! :-)

Is dad around? If so, you might do better getting a man to help him out with this stuff. It can seem girly to boys and they might resist it. However, if dad (or grandad, or an uncle...) shows him how to wash up, and you get him stuff for men (which I believe Clinique makes, but certainly others do), he'll be much more inclined to take care of his skin. Hope that helps!

K., If you take him to The Body Shop, the one with the all natural products not BAth and Body Works, they have a line of called Tea Tree that works really well. You both can read up on it on line and order that way if he feel more comfortable. I don't know how severe it is but you can always get Acne free that works really well. Even if he uses the product once a day it would probably help. Use the spot treatment from Acne free that should help. He could use the cleanser in the shower.
hope this helps.

Hi, I sell Arbonne, an all natural skin and body care products. It doesn't have any animal byproducts or mineral oil in them (which is the number one reason anyone has skin problems to begin with) we have a great acne solution that is easier on the skin than some and does not dry out the skin as others can. But sometimes it's just because of sensitive skin. Some of my clients still use the baby line because of sensitive skin. If there is anything in his soap that his skin is sensitive to, it will show up as blimishes... Give me a call or email me if you have any other questions or would like some samples... ###-###-#### or ____@____.com

Hi K.! It doesn't sound like from what you wrote he's dealing with acne but just the normal teenage stuff starting a little early. I know at one point Mary Kay carried a line of skin care for teens. It's packaged so that boys and girls alike would be comfortable using it-doesn't look girlie. I've used MK for years and it's pretty gentle. One of the big things right now for him is to get in a good routine of gently cleaning his skin in the morning before school and before he goes to bed.
I also want to confirm that Arbonne has a few great products for him depending on the severity of his acne. They have an acne line, but he just may need a good quality basic skin care product. Arbonne is a botancially based skincare line. They don't have any animal byproducts, nor do they test on animals. I believe there is a consultant on Mammasource or you can email me with any questions. I'd be happy to help in any way that I can.

I agree with you, Clinique is not enought to control his break outs and you should get a good cleansing facial for him.
I have been doing them for 15 years and started because my daughter had bad acne and no one could help her, so I can help him. I have kids of all ages come in and then after a facial I will send him home with some samples and if see a difference and you will, then your welcome to come back and get some. My product will control his break outs and it has
no alcohol to dehydrate his skin. Look at the ingredients in your Clinique toner and you will see what it has in it and its not helping his skin or yours. If you have any questions please call me at ###-###-#### or my website:

I am a nurse that worked for a dermatologist before moving to Fl. If he is just having black heads then going to a dr wont do much but get you expensive creams. We recommended using over the counter benzoyl peroxide wash. Its in with all the other avne washes. Look for benzoyl peroxide 5 %. Have him put that on his face and leave it for 2-3 minutes then wash it off. Its like $5 for a tube that will last 5-6 months. I promise this will help. Good Luck!!!

I dont know if you've ever heard of Arbonne, but they have some great pruducts for skin care. I have a friend that had exema( if i spelled that correct!!) real bad and she also tried alot of diffferent things that didnt work. She finnally was introduced to Arbonne's skin care line and she tried it for a few weeks and it worked. All of the exema on her face was gone and the rest of her body was almost completely healed. Arbonne is an all natural product. It has no animal or by-products in it. It also is tested only on humans. No animal testing. I think this could be your saving grace. If you would like to try it they have a webbsite you can go to or you could email me back and i can give you some information for ordering the product. Here is there website www.arbonne.com. If you would like some samples i could get you some, i just need your address.Oh! and i dont know if you know or not but Mammasource advertises Arbonne. Just go to the link New! Member Perks at the top right and click on it. You will see free shipping for mammasource members.

For boys it is a little more difficult. My son started having some blemishes so I explained about oily foods and sugar that will clog the pores thus making blemishes. I also told him about washing his face thoroughly morning and night with warm soapy water, rinsing w/ warm and then w/ cold water. That worked for a few years but then his face was being affected by his hormones in such a way that we had to see a dermotologist who gave him some ointments and pills which cleared him up and he took for years. Just try to assure him it's normal and act relaxed. Good Luck.
We have tried Arbon, Proactive and just about every over the counter regiman. This works great for her. Consitancy is key though.
Also, tell him the drinking lots of water is key for great skin and a healthy diet helps with good skin as well.

Another all natural remedy that seems to really help preteen skin is witch hazel. Its an astringent, and I used it during my teenage years, once a day after washing my face. Also, plain tea tree oil can be used, but be sure to dilute it- its strong stuff! Just a couple drops in a small bottle. Good luck to your son!

Years ago my younger brother had the same situation. I had a clay based facial mask called MUD that I shared with him with good results. I'm pretty sure I saw it at Walgreen's recently. Anyway, as the name implies, it looks like mud, it's brown, with no fragrance other than a slightly earthy smell. My brother really enjoyed smearing "mud" on his face. Boys like dirt, bugs, anything NOT girly -right? It's not necesary to let it dry all the way before rinsing, in fact, you can use it like a scrub. The clay absorbs impurities and excess oil. Best used 2x daily AM & PM. Worth a try...

Hi K. - I shop online from a wellness company that has a wonderful treatment for acne. It's not expensive either! If you call or email me I can tell you all about it. My 5 year old gets little bumps on her face, not necessarily 'blemishes' but they look like little pimples, and I am using a great cream on her face now that my company has and it is clearing it up beautifully. Also, neither of these products is 'girly', so your son wouldn't feel funny using them. :) Call or email me if you want me to show them to you. ____@____.com or ###-###-#### Have a great day!

The best trick I have found.. I went to Merle Norman cosmetics and picked up facial soap w/ acylic acid 2.0%,
and a regualr facial soap I placed both on the shower rack
and my 15 & 11 yr old daughters and 13 yr old son all rotate the soaps everyday. It made it easier because they were already showering and it doesn't require any special or extra washing of the face. This facial soap is equivalent to proactive and works great! The acylic acid dries and medicates the inflammed areas of the face causing swelling and minimization of the red areas the regular soap balances the skin and moisturizes just enough that the acyllic acid doesnt over dry. It sounds like a headache but actually the soap sits beside the shampoo and all the kids have to do is remember which one they used the day before!! Hope this helps. This facial soap is GREAT! I use it also everyday, I use the regular in shower and the acylic acid/med at night to take off my make up!!! I live by this rule and it is way easier for the kids!! please let me know if you want more information! I'll get you the names and prices!! ____@____.com

I am a Mary Kay Senior Beauty Consultant. I had REALLY bad acne when I was a teen. So, when my younger brother, who has just turned 16, was about the same age as your son, he began to have blemishes. I was able to do a mini facial on him using our Velocity skin care line which is a mild skin care for teen agers. He loved it and it worked. He washes and moisturizes his face everyday now and it really cleared him up. And the other good thing is that the products are not expensive. Let me know if I can help. www.marykay.com/karisa_donaldson

While this is a little bit of a plug for my business (I am a Mary Kay Consultant), their Velocity skin care is great. It's made for younger people with acne problems. I've seen amazing results. Also, the bottles are not pink, so you're son would not be embarrased by using something for 'girls.' Good luck!
