I'm having my daughter's 4th bday party in a couple weeks at an art studio type of place and was thinking that doing face painting would be a good activity for the kids. Has anyone ever hired someone to do this and if so, any recommendations? Or, have you done it yourself and if so, where do you get face paint?
K., don't be disappointed, I am not responding to your question but rather I have a question for you. What are the pros and cons of having kids almost 4 years apart like yours are? I have a 20 month old and am planning on waiting a few years... but I have concerns about doing that. Got any advice?
I use to think face painting was cute and all but this past xmas my daughter was at some sort of xmas party and they put something on her face and it took over a week to remove it, it burned her skin and I was not happy. Since then I won't allow my daughter to do face painting or temporary tattoos on her face only her forearm. So keep that in mind.
My daughter also just recieved facepainting markers from like office max or something as a gift and she wanted to paint mommy's face but after our xmas incident I said no no but have at it at my legs. I was on the telephone while she colored my legs. She colored every square inch of my legs and thighs. It was suppose to be washable and guess what it didn't come off my legs completely for 3 weeks. Thank goodness its' not warm outside for shorts and she didn't get my face.
I bought a face-painting kit at the bookstore--it came with an instruction booklet which has great designs. My kids often use it at home on rainy days, and we did use it at a B-day party once.
I did it myself at my son's birthday party last year. I bought the paints at Michaels. If you plan on doing it yourself stay away from the paints that look like pencils or the bath crayons. They were terrible. Stick with the regular face paint and buy some good brushes.

I had a face painter for my daughter's 3rd birthday, and she's really great, and super fast, we've also had her at our block parties, she does a variety of different things, like balloon hats, and I think on her website, she'll just do certain activities too.
