Facebook Group Message Question

I sent out a group FB message. I noticed it said that a few people 'had left the group." Does this mean that they changed their settings so they would not receive any messages from anyone in my group post? What does "leaving the group" actually mean? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Good point, Doris. Maybe you are right and they just turned off their computer. What do y'all think?

It means they have chosen to drop out of the conversation and no longer receive notifications when someone posts to that thread.
Was it a large group you messaged? If so, it gets annoying getting notifications of every. single. response. It's like a large group email where everyone on the email hits "reply all" each time they send something.

When you send out a GROUP MESSAGE - EVERY SINGLE TIME someone replies - you get a notification on your screen and your "inbox" blows up.

When a person "leaves the group" that means they have LEFT THE CONVERSATION - they walked out the door. They didn't change their settings, they didn't turn their computer off, they didn't close facebook, they LEFT THE CONVERSATION.

There is a difference between having a "group" and sending a "group message".

A group: can post on a wall, ask questions, etc. you can either add or remove people depending upon your status - admin or not. you cannot "hide" comments in a group, they are there for all to see. If you do NOT want someone to see it - you have to block them or remove them from the group.

A group message is just like an e-mail - once the initial information has been disseminated, people leave because after that? It's all down hill from there. When in a group message, you will see that Janet left the conversation.

So what does it mean? It means they were done with the conversation, got what they needed and left.

I've done that.... by "leaving the group", they no longer get any of the messages from that particular group chat.

It means they cancelled that particular thread. For instance if someone is having say a Tupperware party and send out an email to 50 people some will be interested and want to talk a lot so messages go in a flurry between a bunch of the people. Some people are not interested and don't want to see the flurry of messages. They can click the leave the group button and just won't be in on those messages anymore. They didn't unfriended you just opted out of that discussion.

If they left the message, it means they don't want to see the conversation any more - they don't want updates and they aren't interested in what people have to say. It does not mean they turned off the computer.

I think items they don't want to see all of the notifications from that group.
I really don't think it's turning off the computer.
Similar to liking a friends MLM page and getting sick of seeing 20 posts a day about her power shakes...or fat wraps..or 31....or Mary Kay...or personal training.....

Yes, they clicked "Group Settings" and chose to "Leave the Group" so they did not get anymore messages from that post.

No, they did not turn off their computer. They did not want to continue to get notifications for every comment posted.

no, it's nothing to do with turning off the computer. it means they're getting annoyed at receiving a gazillion notifications about that group thread and have opted out.
i do it pretty much ANY time i receive a group FB message.

No, you can leave the message too.

The main problem of sending out a group message is that each time anyone responds it goes to everyone the message was sent to. It can be tiresome, especially if the messages notify their cell phone. That could be a bunch of notifications if there are several in the message header.

By leaving the message they don't get anymore updates and aren't part of the message anymore.

It doesn't mean they don't want to be friends with you or they don't want messages it just means they don't want to read the following discussion, they've read the reason and now they don't want to see it anymore.

To me, if at all possible you always need to head any group message with this statement.

"Please start a new message to respond to me about this message. Every time you comment on this it will go to each person's message center. Please be respectful of everyone else and by starting a new message with me that takes our conversation out of the other's sight".

It means that they do not want to receive a notification every time someone comments on your message. If they have chosen not to participate in that particular conversation, then it would be annoying to them to have to know every time someone else says something.

I belong to a support group on FB for people with family members who have a particular disease. It's private and a closed group, with rules. I had to request to join the group, and I agree not to try to sell things, not to use discouraging words or rude words, not to give false hope (like "my sister had a brain tumor but she bought this special oil that she rubbed on her head and now she's cured, and here's where you can order the special oil for only $3000). The group has been tremendously helpful, supportive, encouraging and kind. However, sometimes, someone has been angry - they wanted to join so they could peddle their vitamins, or they've accused people of faking their disease,or they've given up hope because they joined expecting a quick answer to a complicated illness, and so they left the group. This doesn't mean they're offline, or at work and not on FB, it means they have removed their name from the list. (Of course, it's not always due to anger, sometimes they just realize the group isn't for them and they leave the group with a word of thanks) Even if I don't check FB for a day or so, or turn off my computer, I am still in the group. And usually with this kind of group, you don't change your settings but the administrator removes your name from the group membership list and you no longer will receive group posts, notifications or messages.
