Fallon Health Insurance Opinions?

Hi,

My husband and I are researching new health plans, as we are currently on my BCBS HMO through my work but will be losing this when I stop working- his company is based out-of-state and doesn't pay for health insurance so we're starting from scratch looking at all providers.

I've heard some good things about Fallon (we're leaning toward its Select Care plans) and wanted to know if anyone has any opinions, good or bad, since we're seriously considering signing up- the monthly costs seem lower than BCBS/Tufts/etc, preventitive visits are covered, includes dental, etc but I'm wondering if it's "too good to be true"...if you don't like FCHP and can recommend something better we're still open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi A.
I have Fallon Select. I love it. Some people dont like it but I have never had a problem with coverage. My son has been sick for the past few years and the only thing that wasnt covered was a nebulizer for his breathing treatments. You do need a referal for things but if you have a good doctor that wont be a problem.
We go to Southboro Medical not the Fallon clinics.
Hope this was helpful.

Just be sure Fallon has enough providers where you will be needing services. Check all hospitals you would want to go to including local and Boston hospitals. I had a very bad experience with them a few years ago because of this. Otherwise, I was self-employed had them for about a year and it was fine.

I have Fallon Select and I have been very pleased with the coverage. I could continue to see my doctors, without changing to ones practicing in the Fallon Clinics. The Fallon doctors are great too, but I did not want to leave providers that had already been treating me for years!

One thing though, don't expect much from the dental plan, I am a Dental Hygienist, and I know that it is VERY difficult to find a dentist that accepts Fallon.

Hi, A.! I was reading what you wrote about looking for another health care plan since you will be losing your plan soon. I'm a dental sales rep. with Dental Plans & sell very affordable plans to meet everyone's needs & financial budget. Yes, these are dental plans, but some plans come with additional coverage like RX, Vision, Chiropractic, & Hearing at NO additional charge. These plans are very affordable starting at $129.95 a YEAR for a family plan. You may use these plans all over the USA just in case you're out of your area & need to see a dentist or get a RX filled, etc. ALL new members get an additional 3 months FREE & an extra 10% off any plan. If you would like some more information on these plans feel free to give me a call & I can tell you what plans are available in your area & who participates for providers. You can reach me at ###-###-####. I'd be happy to help you! Have a great day!!

Before becoming a SAHM I wourked for on Oral Surgeon and I was incharge of setting him up with insurance providers. I had a problem with Fallon b/c when I tried to get my DR set up as one of their providers they said they only allow 1 Oral Surgeon in a 100 mile radius so we couldn't be a provider for them. I tried every few month to see if they changed their policy but as of 2006 they hadn't. So make sure you get a list of providers in your area, hospitals, clinics and specialists (you may not need a specialist now but you never know when you 'll need a dermatologist or ENT or an eye specialist) so you don't have to travel 100 miles to see a specialist. Also see what their policy is if you or a family member is away and gets hurt or sick will you be stuck travelling far to see one or their doctors or will they waive certain things and get specifics b/c we had a guy that was in a car accident that had his teeth knock out and had to wait almost 2 weeks to be seen by the Fallon Oral surgeon and Fallon wouldn't make any exceptions. Definately get everything in writing and get very specific with them or anyone you wasnt to sign up with. Also check the dental portion we found that when they say dental it is for children under 12 and it is just cleanings nothing else. I hope this helps. I don't mean to be critical but I saw it every day patients would come in thinking their insurance covered certain things and that was far from the truth. I would hate to see you stuck when it mattered the most. Good Luck.

we had the fallon select care plan and LOVED it--we switched to my partner's grad school health care because it was just so much cheaper, but are planning to go back on the fallon select in may. it does seem too good to be true--but it's really that good. :) at least in my experience, especially those no-copay well visits!

hope this helps!

We had great luck with Fallon Select for years. We're back on BC because it's provided by a new employer. Make sure most of your favorite doctors accept it, or be willing to switch. There are tons of providers so you won't have trouble finding someone you like.

I am not sure where you are located? However check to see that the current careproviders you use are accepting of this insurance. My husbands job was considering switching to them however in our area they are not accepted by a lot of careproviders or even hospitals.

Best of luck in your search

I also used to have Harvard Pilgrim and was very satisfied with them. We now have Fallon Select due to my husband's company no longer offering Harvard. Fallon Select has been fine for us. They ar a bit more work than Harvard and not all of our specialists were covered, so we had to make some tough choices there. However they have a peice of mind prgoram that was wonderful when my husband had issues an needed to see his neurosurgeon who was not in the Select plant. We have a separate dental plan, so I cannot comment on that aspect. The cost savings for us has been significant and have not encountered any issues with coverage thus far.

I've heard mixed reviews on Fallon. I have Harvard and love it. I've also noticed when talking to friends they are often surprised what Harvard covers fully.
