Hi,
Just hoping that some of you may have heard of or experienced a good family therapist for children either in or near Walnut Creek. Our daughter has had difficulty handling anxiety. It started when she was 3 and came out in night terrors/nightmares. However, recently, it's still the same thing "spiders", but it happens when she is awake (goes to the bathroom) and she can stay awake from 2am on. This has even happened during the day when she had been up during the night and I wanted her to take a nap. She's getting run down and sick and we are just looking for someone to guide us through. The reaction to the "spiders" is hysterical screaming and manifests itself in physiologically too, rapid heart rate, looks like she really sees it, etc. Any referrals would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My husband and I just met with a woman therapist regarding our daughter. We discussed parenting issues and strategies but she is a children's therapist and her office was clearly set-up with children in mind.

She is in Walnut Creek and her phone is ###-###-####.

Sounds like she has Hypnagogic hallucinations. I have had them on occasion, seeing spiders that aren't there just as I'm about to fall asleep. Its common especially in young children, can be a side effect from a medication, people who have sleep apnea also experience it, and those who have narcolepsy. I wouldn't suggest a therapist but a sleep study or a neurologist to get a correct diagnosis.
