We have a really large family and we are looking to take a family vacation before school starts. Can anyone recommend a destination that would be great for us to take our children, ages 8,7,3,3,and 10months.

I dont know how far you are wanting to travel, but Branson Missouri is a great place for tons of family centered fun! Also, have you been to Sea World in San Antonio recenly....there is alot of other things to enjoy there, but Sea World is by far the best!! We were considering trying to make it to Schlitterban (sp??) as well, but maybe next year! Have fun squeezing in some last minute fun..and what a great busy house you must have!!~A.~

We went to the Ft Worth Zoo on half-price Wednesday. On the way back, we stopped at Ripley's Believe It or Not and the House of Wax. After that, we went to eat at The Magic Time Machine in Addison. We didn't want to have to get a hotel so we just made a day of it instead of traveling a long way from home. We all had a great time.

Port Aransas. It is a great family friendly place. You can rent condos, or houses for pretty reasonable on the beach. The water is really pretty for south texas and the beaches are nice as well. It also has a variety of restaurants for a variety of prices, neat downtown and stores too.

Let me know if you have any questions.

We had a great time last year at Guadalupe River Ranch.

It's in the hill country. They have a few larger cabins that would hold your whole family. We actually got a room with one bed and brought along an inflatable sleeping bag thing for our daughter (3 yrs at the time), and the baby (1 yr) slept in a pack-n-play.
It really was a fun time for everyone. There is a pool, sand volley ball pit (read: giant sandbox for younger kids) and little park area, horse riding (even a short corral ride for the little ones), covered wagon rides, a short walk to the river for splashing fun, nightly Smores roasting. You can rent a bicycle (for free) to cruise around the ranch. There's an onsite restaurant, an onsite shop with snacks and treats, spectacular views everywhere, deer roaming around. We requested a fridge in the room and we packed sandwiches and breakfast food. It was nice to eat on the patio/balcony at our room.
It's just 30 minutes from Lukenbach, which was a fun little stop on the drive down. If there's an event there, the consession stand has snacks, drinks and dinner.

Turner Falls OK It only 2 hours from Plano a very easy drive to another world. The park has camping but outside of the park there are cabins. That is where we like to stay. The cabins are wonderful with Kitchens and grills outside for BBQ. You can take your own food which realy helps with $$$$. When you have a large family. The park has wonderful water falls and lakes shallow wading or rafting. There are always lots of families with childeren of all ages. It is very beautiful with many tress flowers and walking trails.
About me: I have a wonderful 11 year old daughter (who is going on 16 she thinks!) and am a step-Mom to two teen girls 15 and 19. With my true soul mate!

I was interested in these ideas as well. I have 5 at home ages 4-9. We were thinking about having fun w/out spending much. It's cheap to go most places until you start paying for 7 tickets! LOL We plan to go somewhere like Corpus Christi and stay in a motel (since we will be out most of the day). Since the kids are small we take a blow up mattress and 3 sleep longways on one of the beds, 2 on the matress between the beds. It works great and we have a blast. Beach is free. Feed the sea gulls, take a ferry ride to another island and eat lunch. Find seashells, make castles and bury each other. Play frisbee, go shopping, swim, watch the cruiseliners board and take off. There is plenty to do on the beach w/out spending much money.

The flyingranch looks really cool too!

It is an awesome ranch near san antonio. The price includes the room (suite) 3 meals (cafeteria style but more personal), horse back riding (one a day) and scheduled kids activities all day. They also have evening family activities, pool, lazy river, and waterpark, golf, tennis, and lots of other fun stuff. We had a blast! It was very relaxing too.
