Hi Mamas,
We are planning on going out for sushi tomorrow night. Believe it or not, it's my oldest son's 4th birthday tomorrow and sushi is what he requested for dinner! He will only eat the cooked egg sushi, but he loves it and my two year old loves the edemame and rice. We are trying to decide where to go ... please share your favorite sushi restaurant in or near Plano. If it offers a sushi happy hour, that would be a HUGE plus! thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for everyone's responses! I had never heard of Sushi Masu before, and while I was at first reluctant to make the drive all the way to Carrollton, I found the rave reviews on the internet and thought it would probably be worth the trip. Unfortunately, shortly after making this decision, I received a phone call for my kids' school saying that my 2 year old was sick. Needless to say, we stayed in for the night on Friday. On Saturday night, we needed to grab a few things from Market Street in Allen and decided to just run into Bluefish and see how long the wait was. They seated us right away and were had ordered, recieved our food and eaten in only 30 minutes! I couldn't believe how fast our food came out! We had eaten there before for lunch but never for dinner or with our children. With two squirmy children, the speed at which we were served was really appreciated and the food was all great. I also appreciated that they had a few "rice-free" which allowed me to feel like I could splurge a little more and still stay on my diet.

Thanks everyone for your other suggestions. We have been to Sakana before (it's super close to us) and have always enjoyed the food and service. The waitresses always make a fuss over the boys and are very accomodating bringing out extra rice, etc for them. Clair - I'd love to hear if you have any favorite rolls or dishes we should try the next time we go there. I am also curious to try the Stone Horse and RA that were recommended. They are on my "list" now. The other places suggested are ones I have been to and I did really enjoy, but I was kind of hoping to try somewhere new since we don't get out very often these days. I was also hoping someone would know about a sushi happy hour - it seems like places used to always have them and now I'm only aware of a couple and one is only for lunch. You would think that in this economy the restaurants would try to get ppl in with some specials!

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. I'll post an update whenever we can make it over to Sushi Masu ... the next sushi stop on our list! Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

I realize that with responding to this today, you may have already gone last night...But, we go to Sushi Sakana at Parker/Custer, and after having tried EVERYWHERE else, they are the best. Even better than Blue Fish (although they're pretty darn good too). Sakana is cheaper.

There is a new place that came in up near Preston/121 (on the Plano side), that is a buffet style that has sushi "boats" - the sushi floats around and you take what you want. I went to a place like this in San Fransisco once, so I really want to try them.

My kids love sushi too, and often I opt for the Tom Thumb stuff, but when we go out, Sakana is the best.

AWAJI in Plano at park and preston. Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside is nice. The sushi is fresh and flown in daily...they are always busy on the weekends (late night) so they turnover their fish quickly which is a good thing with sushi restaurants. They have the largest selection of veggie sushi, by far! I don't eat fish or seafood and I love going for hte veggie sushi...my husband does the real sushi! I'd highly suggest it for a family with kids. They also give these little green tea cakes and oranges at the end of the meal.

Sushi Masu off Midway and Park near Taco Cabana and Yogurtville

By far the best sushi place I have been too! So fresh! I'm not sure if they have a happy hour. The service is excellent and usually they give you a free goodie (like pancake or something special) to try. I've been to Blue Fish,Ra, Sushi Awaji, but whenever I get my sushi craving and thats pretty often I always think of Sushi Masu

Blue Fish off the Tollway is family friendly. My son loves to sit at the sushi bar so that he can watch the chefs make the sushi. Each time we have gone there with him our sushi chef has made it extra special by cutting up swans made of oranges and lemons and flowers made out of vegetables.

Sushi Sake at 75 and Campbell is amazing! I always thought they were kinda a hole in the wall place but I saw recently they were rated one of D's Best.

Love, Love, Love The Stone Horse on Campbell and 75.. they have the best sushi around (my personal opinion). I would highly recommend the Spicy Tuna Tower, for you and your husband that is. There is a also a McDonalds in the parking lot that you can hit up for some chicken nuggets for the 2 year old, thats what we do for my daughter =)
