Feeding a 1 Year Old

I was wondering how much milk per day I should feed my 1 year old. He was breastfed for 10 months and is now on whole milk. (Plus the occasional breastmilk snack from the freezer:). Yesterday my pediatrician said to give him 16 oz. per day, but then I wondered if he meant that as a minimum or a maximum. I haven't found any websites to advise on quantity. Currently I feed him approx 24 oz per day. His weight is 50th percentile (average).

Also, any other food suggestions are welcome! I just love trying new nutritious finger foods with him!

What can I do next?

I was told no more than 24 oz a day. They can end up with loose stools if you give them too much...

No more than 20oz a day. Fruit cups are always a hit and easy to travel with.

Our pediatrician told us between 10 and 20 ounces of whole milk a day, but absolutely no more than 24 ounces total, including yoghurt, cheese, and other dairy products. I have a 15 month old and he takes on average of 15oz/day of milk, then we give him 4oz of yoghurt and some cheese.

I believe if your child would like some milk, then you should give him some milk. There are limitations now, I don't believe you should be acurate, I think that the doctors came up with this because they don't want parents to "just give milk" all day. They want the child to have a well balanced day of all varieties of nutrients. Great job with the breastfeeding too! I have 5 kids, 3 my own, breast fed them all, and now my youngest is 16 months... he gets his milk and water, and juice and food, all balanced, but never a "specific" quanity. He is on the 99th percentile for height, and 90th for weight, and is the happiest boy ever. no concerns from the doctors, except to why he is so happy. Don't worry if you go over the 16 oz limit, as long as he gets his protein, fruit, and vegi's, I think he will be perfect!
Good luck with your darling, and God bless you for being all on your own with him, I hope your husband will be with you more so he doesn't miss out in your lives.

As far as fun foods with my son, I put rasberries on his fingers and make noises when he nibbles them off, he just cracks up. Same with grapes, and olives, he loves it! I also cut cheese and hame in little triangles and make mini sadwiches without the bread, and hide them under 2 different cups. Then I ask where is the sadwich? and he will find it under the cup and eat it quickly and laughingly... you can interact with your child to get them to eat any food that they normally wouldn't eat, it is so much fun for you too!

Some foods you could try:
I just tried mandarin oranges with my 15 month old and she ate the whole 10 oz container...just kept demanding more.

She also loves lima beans (cut in half), olives (cut in slices), the canned "new" potatos (already peeled, cooked and sliced), nonsweetened applesauce in the little containers that she can feed herself from, and finally, dill pickles. I gave her one out of desperation at a restaurant and she ate the whole spear. Now whenever I have a pickle spear with my sandwich she "uh, uh" and points until I give it to her.

Good luck & try (almost) anything after age 1

I was just at my 15 month old's check up and her dr said 16 oz of milk was the minimum. But that yogurt, cheese and veggies with calcuim counted towards that too.
