Some babies drink a lot some not much. If he drinks it all and does not spit it back up afterward let him have it. When he has had enough he will stop. It's fine as long as he does not need another bottle before 3 hrs if formula. If on formula he should be able to go 3 hrs before needing another bottle. If breast he might want another bottle in 2 hrs.
I hope this helps.

I think that sounds about right. Really, it is however much he wants as long as he doesn't start spitting up too much. They are usually good about stopping when they need to since they eat every few hours and because if breastfeeding, they tend to fall asleep a lot too. If you formula feed, he might eat less. Let him guide you. Congratulations!

Until she is full. Then again when she is hungry again.

Dear J.,

Congrats on being a new Mom. It is a whole new world. I always fed mine as much as she wanted! I learned that the trick was to feed her a couple of ounces and then burp her real good and continue feeding and burp again because the air gets trapped in their stomachs and makes them feel full when they are not. If I did not do the burping then she would be up crying for more in a short amount of time. Babies go through growth spurts and will require more food at those times. Just go by what you see. If he starts to not sleep well and fuss then he needs more food. Fully fed baby equals peacefull sleep.

Hope that helped.

That's pretty normal for a two monthy old. I breastfed mine so it was her do say, but when I started pumping, they took anywhere from 4 to 6 oz at a time. I let them eat until they were full. The doctor said 15-20 minutes per feeding so that's about right. As long as he's doesn't seem to be hungry an hour after you feed him, 4.5 oz shld be fine.

Good luck.

As long as your baby seems satified when he is done, that's plenty. They say that a way to tell is by how long they go between feedings. For breastfed babies, the nurses in the hospital told me the average is 2-3 hours and formula fed babies generally go 4-6 hours between feedings. My daughter was breastfed for the first 3 weeks, and even on breast milk she would go about 5 hours before eating. One nurse told me to wake her up and feed her, and another said if she's sleeping to just let her be, but not to let her go more than 6 hours. I followed the second nurses advice, and to this day have not regretted it. So as long as your baby seems satisfied and isn't underweight, don't worry about how much he's eating right now. And yes he will let you know. My daughter did and still does start crying if she feels she's not getting enough in one feeding. I've also noticed that she will fuss (she really isn't a fussy baby) sooner than usual, and as one mom mentioned, eat more when she is going thru a growth spurt.

I asked my dr this same question and until my son was 4 months old he wouldnt take any more then 2oz at a time. He is now 9 months old and wont take anymore then 4oz at a time. I try every couple of weeks to see if he will take more at a time, but your dr will know whats best for your baby. So make sure to ask your dr first.

I had asked the dr the same question and he said babies know when to stop eating. He said every once in a while make a bigger bottle and if she eats more then she used to start feeding her that amount. So I did and once a month I would add more to see if she was ready for more. The dr is the best person to ask about feeding questions because he knows your babies health history and nutritional needs. Every baby is different.

That's about right. My dr. says go by how many months they are and add 2 and that's how many oz. they should be drinking approx.
