We have never done a field trip to a restaurant, so I'm looking for ideas of what my girl scout troop can look forward to seeing when they go visit a local restaurant. What should the restaurant show them when they are there?
Are they old enough to go to a 'soup kitchen' - to volunteer and eat with the people that have the need to go there?
Are they going for badge work here? What are they working on? What are the goals of the trip?
If they have computerized ordering, maybe the waitress can show them how that works.
Also, a trip to the kitchen to see how things work and how foods are kept hot/cold, etc.
What age girls are you bringing and what is the goal of the trip?
I used to work at a preschool (when I wass in HS, lol) and we'd take the kids to an italian restaurant down the street (SO nice to be able to just walk!) during off-hours. We arranged with the owner to show the kids how they made their pizzas and then they helped us make some--I think one year they made big ones in groups and another time the older kids made individual ones. It was a lot of fun for them to make restaurant food at the restaurant, and the oldest kids stood at the door of the kitchen and watched the staff put the food in the oven. We were really blessed to know the owner of this small restaurant--and several of the families went back for dinner so it was worth it to them to accommodate us.
For GS, a quick kitchen tour might be neat if it's possible--if I was giving the tour I'd point out the handwashing sink (emphasize the importance of good hygiene), the hot & cold food prep areas, and food storage areas (the walk-in refrigerator &/or freezer may seem cool depending on the girls' age). Also talking at the table(s) about manners, etc., might be useful.
