Hi Mama's!

I just had to share...
last Friday I started reading the first book in the series Fifty Shades of Grey, well here it is 10 days later and I completed all three books :) YAY ME! LOL

It started out as something that I didn't think I was going to enjoy. Then it completely changed I was sucked in!
I hope they make a movie out of all three books..
I would love to tell you about the story I just don't want to ruin it for you all;)

So my question is have any of you read this book or books?
Did you like it?
What did you think about it?

Oh and if you haven't read it YOU MUST LOL

What can I do next?

I downloaded the free sample for the first book to my Kindle and I could barely get through that much of it. The writing is atrocious! I don't care how much sex there is in these, I can't read something that is so poorly written.

BTW: The Harry Potter series is very well-written. There is debate, but some in the publishing field believe that the series will become a classic.

They were ok. I read all 3. I thought the email exchanges were cute, but the sex scenes were meh - repetitive. How many times did we read about how she would bite her lip and he would flex his hips? ~yawn~ The characters poorly drawn stereotypes.

I've read better.

I keep hearing mixed reviews. I hated twilight so the fact that it is based off that kind of makes me nervous, also I loved the "Claiming of beauty" series by Anne Rice and have heard that 50 Shades may pale in comparison, but I may give the first one a shot just to see what all the hype is about.

No, I mustn't.

I'm actually kind of sad, that this is what gets people to open up a book :(
(I'm not saying anything about you, personally. I just mean the mass hysteria.) I always wonder why it's books like this, Twilight, Harry Potter. Why can't the population read real literature? It's always the silly, or smutty stuff. Shrug. Just thinking out loud, sorry!

I read the books. Like many have said before, I wanted to see what the hype was about. I think I was disappointed. First, I expected it to be more salacious. It had it's moments, but with all the hype, I expected more than was offered. I thought the writing was really terrible and repetitive. She uses the same phrases over and over in all three books.(Take out all the blushing and lip biting and the first book may only be 60 pages!) And the writing seemed immature...this character is doing all these crazy and insane bedroom activities, but still refers to her vagina as "down there"and her "sex". And by the end, I wanted to drop kick Ana's "inner goddess". I wanted to shake her and yell "Have some respect for yourself!!!". The story line does pick up as the trilogy goes along and I didn't hate the books (I did finish all three). I just didn't really like them. I didn't see it as a love story, it was a sad and poorly written story. I guess it's a sexual revolution of some sort, but there has to be better erotica out there.

No I must not. Time is far more valuable than a refresher course on the fun you can have with toys. :(

It is not that I am against it, I could actually care less. I get all excited about books on psychology, economics. What would be someone's reaction to me saying you have the read that? I wouldn't consider that reaction to mean they are against either discipline, just not their cup of tea. This book is just not my cup of tea.

Oh god, from what I have read the story line is plagiarized. :p

Okay, not to be belittling but if you can read three books in a week, not the OP but everyone that said that, it can't be that much of a book.

I haven't read it. Sure I was intrigued b/c of all the hype, but when I learned that it's a steamy sex book, I decided not to waste my time with reading it.

I haven't read it yet, but keep hearing about it from friends.
Yesterday I read an article regarding this book and how they are running out of cotton rope at the hardward store and sales are up on sex toys. There must be a lot of happy hubby's out there...hee..hee...

They kept me interested but, they are not written very well at all. I think the main characters keep you turning the page but, there were times I was actually skipping over a lot of the "bonding" parts. I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. They were "okay" IMO.

If you want a series that is VERY well written....read The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. Now there is some good reading!

While some have read all three books in a week, it has taken me 4 weeks to get to page 150. I read in bed and keep falling asleep.

The writing is simply horrible---redundant, unbearable syntax, juvenile phrases, and a completely predictable plot, so far. If I read one more, "my breath hitches" I think I might throw the book against the wall! (just kidding).

I have a hard time getting past all of that, but I will try and press on and finish the series. Many of my friends have said the story gets better, so I'll continue to give it a try.

I read them. I liked them. :)

My SIL tells me that there is a book called "Bared to You" supposed to be just as good or better. She just started reading it. I haven't broke down to purchase it for my ipad yet, but I did go with her yesterday to get it and it was in the best seller section at B & N.

I enjoyed all 3 but agree that the storyline improved in the 2nd and 3rd. I read all genres and this is easy to read (perfect for lying by the pool on vacation) I don't like the snobbery with some people!! If its not for you just say Its not your thing, but looking down your nose at someone for reading a certain kind of book is horrid. I know people who haven't picked up a book since they left school and are now reading these books. I am all for getting people reading. :-)

Honestly I thought it was okay. Thank goodness I borrowed it and didnt buy the series because it will not be a series that I will re-read. I think they could have fit it all in one possibly 2 books. The sex was very repetitive and I ended up skimming those scenes until the book picked up again. minus the 75 million sex scenes and 20% plot it was a good book considering. Has it helped my husband and I in the bedroom? He says yes I say no. All it has made me do is be a little more mouthy and sarcastic in a intimate manner I guess he likes it. I do see the comparison between twilight although I think I liked twilight better.

Finished all 3 weeks ago.

I like them. Totally would go see the Movie if they made it into one.

They were very easy to read and I went thru them quickly...my only complaint was the over use of the phrase "inner Goddess"...I swear, if I had to read it as many times in the 2nd as I did in the 1st I might not have gone onto the 3rd!

I did read these. I also posted a few days ago! I love these books - cannot put them down. Got some negative responses to my post, which was surprising b/c my friends love them too. Like you, I just got totally sucked in! And not b/c of the sex, b/c of the story. I'm on book three - just started. Cannot wait to finish it, but I'll be sad when they're done. I hope for a movie too!!

I did the same thing! I started out thinking, Oh goodness, really? I loved it and I loved how it made me feel about my husband. It made me just look at him with the passion that I hadn't seen for some time. I know it has been somewhat controversial but after reading all 3 I thought it really spoke for what a good woman, a solid love and true understanding of what works for each in "their" marriage can really do....in more ways than one! haha

I read it. I heard it was so good and it was really making a difference in couple's sex life, so I figured I would check it out. At first it was intriguing, but after a while I was not enjoying the S&M like behavior. I too could not put it down because I wanted to see what would happen. I actually barely skimmed the last red room of pain episode cause I just wanted to get to the end. I was not satisfied when I finished, and I do not see what others see in it. Maybe the other books continue Christian and Ans's story, which I am curious, but I still do not like the s&m stuff. You are not alone though, since so many people love it. I unfortunately did not.

I read all three in less than a week. I agree the 1st was all about the sex, but book 2 and 3 actually had a little bit of a story to it. I enjoyed them, they were an easy read ~ they were captivating.

Am reading book 1 now, and am very disappointed with the style of writing. I loathe reading first-person-present type writing anyway, and this isn't even written well in that style. The sex scenes are all pretty much the same, but fun to read :)

Maybe it is the British style of writing, that Americans don't like. I see so many people saying how bad her writing is, how they can't read it, it's so bad, her grammar, blah, blah. Well, being British also, we do write differently, we tend to say things in a different way. I thought her writing was fine, it's not meant to be Shakespeare! It obviously doesn't matter how bad it is, because it's the best selling book of all time, so people must be getting around the fact that she is a "terrible writer."
I liked the book, I thought the sex was pretty tame, honestly! But it was different from most other romance books, very escapist.
