Hi Ladies,
This is my first pregnancy and I would really like to find a doula to support me through my labor. I'm going to try for a natural childbirth and feel like I'll need all the support I can get. Has anyone here had a good (or bad) doula experience or know of a good one in this area? I welcome any suggestions or advice.
Thanks!
(I'll be delivering in Lewisville)
Thank you to all who responded with advice and referrals!! I'm happy to announce that I've found my doula and am now very excited about my birth and labor. Thanks everyone!

I would HIGHLY recommend Kathy O'Brien http://www.kathyobrien.org/index.htm- she was mine or Cindy Haggerton- she's chiropractor too & working on her Midfifery cert., too. Love her!http://www.family-wellness.com/
Good for you, by the way! A doula is a great choice, make sure you find/ have an OB that is full on with YOUR choice to use a doula- some can be pretty "pissy" about it. BUT KNOW...You are fully within your rights to have one; do NOT let an OB talk you out of this important choice!

PS- I was in labor...ALL NATURAL- 48 hours with my second- you can do it. I would also highly recommend taking Bradley Childbirth classes or something comparable- something that enourages & focuses on natural birthing. The hospital classes most hospitals offer are just "How to Breathe Until you get Your Epidural." ;)
Kathy O'Brien was my doula and I am so thankful. I reviewed her business on this website so check that out if you like. I highly recommend her.
Both of my pregnancies were "high risk", so I was not able to use a doula (although if I'd had one with my 1st, she would've thrown both my mother and my MIL outta my room! They were both driving me c~r~a~z~y!!!!!!!)
OK....so, not knowing anything about doula's, I know that there are several that have their information and contacts at Babies R Us, so you might want to try to swing by there and pick up their info. Doula's also advertise in the D/FW Kids Directory, which you can pick up at your OB's office, or (also) at Babies R Us.
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Hello! First - congratulations on your decision to have a natural childbirth. Birth is a natural process that our bodies were made to do. Nothing will ever compare with feeling your body birth a baby. I believe in natual childbirth 100%, but I also believe in each woman's choice on how they want to birth a baby. I have used a Doula for both of my births and it was an amazing experience. In fact, after my first birth, I joked that I would never give birth without our Doula. So of course she was also present at our home birth this past December.
You can find a great doula by visiting www.dona.org. I would recommend interviewing a couple of doulas - as it is such a personal thing to have another woman attend your birth. Each woman is different and 'clicks' well with different people...but I will send you the information for the doula that we used. She is one of the most amazing women that I have ever met and we are now dear friends. Anyone else wanting her information can ping me - you will not be disappointed in her doula care - during pregnancy, in labor and even her support afterwards.
Good luck to you and be sure to post on your progress with a doula and of course, your birth!
