Hi Moms!

My husband and I just found out yesterday that we're pregnant with our second baby! I wanted to ask when you're supposed to set up your first doctor's appointment? For the life of me, I can't remember when I did it the first time I got pregnant... Should I set it up now or wait a few weeks?

What can I do next?

Eh, I always call the dr's office as soon as I get the positive HPT, then tell them when my LMP was and let them determine when my 1st appt should be. Usually it's 6-8 at that first one.

I always called right away. My doctors office sets up a dating ultrasound around 8 weeks based on your cycle. At that time I met with the nurse to go over dos and don'ts during pregnancy. I usually didn't see the doctor until 12 weeks. Call your doctors office and they will tell you when they want you to come in.

Congrats on baby #2.

You call the Doc to let them know, as soon as you find out.
Then you make an appointment.
That is what I have always done.
I don't wait a few weeks, I called my Doc as soon as I found out I was pregnant and they have me come in.

Congrats!!! Every doctor does it a little different, but when you call your doctor, the office staff will figure it all out for you. With my first pregnancy, I went in for my first appointment somewhere between 5 and 6 weeks, and had my full pelvic exam etc on that day. With my second pregnancy, I was scheduled an appointment at 8 weeks, but it was more of a class on what I was to expect form them and how to handle different situations throughout the pregnancy. I then went for labs and went back it at 12 weeks for a full exam. I think they wait so long because they then have the lab results and the pregnancy is considered more stable.

Call the doctor and tell them your possible last menstrual cycle... they'll know when to set the date for the first appointment.

I called right away and made an appointment. My appointments varied with each pregnancy between 5 and 9 weeks.

i would call and ask.. i called my doctor as soon as i found out.. they said they usually like to do the first appointment around 8 weeks and asked if i could give my best estimate as to how far along i was so that they could give me a date for the appointment so i would be right around the 8 week mark

Nowadays the appointment should be around 8 weeks. If you want prenatal screening it needs to be done at certain points during the pregnancy - if you wait too long it will be too late for some tests.
I would give them a call and they will tell you when to come in.
Congrats and good luck.
