I mamas! I gave birth to my second child this past November, and have been pretty much exclusively breastfeeding so far. My son just started solids and has been sleeping for 10-12 hour stretches at night for a while now. It was around this time post-partum that I started my period again after having my daughter 2 years ago. For the past few months, I've been feeling like I'm going to get my period, but after a few days, the feeling would go away. I do remember this happening with my daughter as well... almost like my body trying to "warm-up" to get things going again! For more than a week now, however, I've had that heavy feeling in my uterus and have been very emotional, yet still so sign of my period (I usually only get these symptoms the day or two before my period begins, not a few weeks prior!). I do not remember this happening last time around, but I do know that every pregnancy, birth, and post-partum experience is different. My question is, has anyone else experienced especially long PMS-like symptoms prior to have their first period post partum? If so, how long did the symptoms last before actually getting your period? I'm anxious to just get things going so I can feel like myself again - the mood swings are hard to deal with for weeks on end! Any info/advice is appreciated! Thank you, mamas!

What can I do next?

My period symptoms changed with each child (3). I finally found using supplements eased PMS and other discomfort, like an extremely heavy flow. It takes some patience because it is a cumulative effect~1200 mg of Omega 3 and vitamins. Mega doses of vitamin A, E & C made a big difference but you must be sure there is no chance of getting pregnant.
Vigorous exercise (like running) 4+ times a week improves PMS & menstruation like nothing else.

I say take a pregnancy test just to be sure. You might have ovulated. You might want to bring up the symptons to your gynie.

Take care

I had my daughter 19 months ago and I have not had a period again yet, I felt like I was a few months back but nothing. I am on a mini pill because I still breastfeed..my doc says it might be a side effect of the mini pill that I have not had a period again yet.. when I stop breastfeeding and go onto another type of contraception/pill I should start my periods again. (my daughter eats lots of foods but still likes my milk in the mornings and before bed..) I suggest you speak to your doctor..it could be an effect of a contraceptive pill you are taking or if you are not taking any then you should get your doctor to find out what's what.
Hope this has kinda helped a bit anyway ;-)

My daughter will be 15 months this month and I just got my period back yesterday! I started weaning her at 12 months and was completely down at 13 months so yeah it can take a while to get your period back. But I felt just like you from the time my daughter was 12 months until now I keep having period symptoms. Like cramping, moodiness, bloating etc. My husband even joked with me and said, "it's like that story about the boy who cried wolf although Your like the girl who cried period." LOL Every few days I just kept thinking my period was coming but it still took until now to get it back. So if your still BF even a little you might be like me and not get it back for a few months after you are done.

I am 8 weeks post partum, exclusively breastfeeding and just got my period today. With my oldest it started 3 months in. I've had no PMS symptoms this time but I'm guessing I'll see those next month.
It is possible that because you're slowly weaning your child onto solid food and he's going through the night, your hormones are changing and acting up a little. I suspect your body will adjust and you may or may not get your period. I wouldn't rely on continuing to be infertile though. It's very possible you've ovulated even without a period to speak of.
Hope that helps.

It took a year and a half after my second daughter was born before I started cycling again. Yes, I was nursing her exclusively, so that's why. So, nothing to worry about if it takes a long while to start.

The only thing I'd worry about is that those symptoms could also mean that you're pregnant again. So, you might take a pregnancy test just to see.

Other than that, don't worry. It all sounds pretty normal.
