First Pregnancy vs S. - WAY More Symptoms!

Just wondered if anyone had this experience. I know that every pregnancy is different. But the longer I go on this one (and I am ONLY almost 12 weeks!) the more I'm thinking either I was completely oblivious during my first pregnancy, or my body seriously had no clue what it was doing! lol.

First time around the ONLY symptom I remember having was being exhausted (mostly early), and having to eat more light meals, being hungrier more often, but not being able to eat as much in one setting (mostly later).

This time around I have run the gamut from exhaustion, constipation, breast pain, cramping, boobs growing, breakouts, super-smell, frequent peeing, nausea. Every time I Google "pregnancy symptoms" and get a slightly different list, I discover more! And every time I think things are calming down, something new pops up. Now my breasts are leaking that sticky clear yellowish liquid that I have read is normal. I never had any of that before! lol. I used to be kind of proud, like hey, my body is apparently made for having babies, this pregnancy thing is no big deal! WRONG, MAMA!

Of course now I am 9 years older, and this baby has a different father, and who knows, it might be a girl where my first was a boy...obviously many factors are different. I'm just constantly marveling (and sometimes not happily) at the differences.

Is it common for things to hit more full-force after the first one? I feel like I've been bamboozled! Lol.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks mamas! Lol as I said, I realize all pregnancies are different... :P I guess there don't seem to be many that experienced this specifically.

And Tadpole you read my mind! Thanks! I sure hope it is!! :)

Morning sickness was much worse for me with #2. Both boys and same dad so I think you can't read too much into it.

All my pregnancies were exactly the same. I had different cravings, though. The thing that was different for me was the births. With each birth, my body figured out what to do, and they became quicker and easier.

Congratulations!

Every pregnancy is different.
You never know how it's going to be.
Some people have it easy the first go round and are surprised the next time.
Occasionally someone has a hard time the first time and then they are delighted when they have no difficulties the next time.
My Mom was sick as a dog with me and had an easy time with my sister.
But I turned out to be the easy going kid and my sister was hell on wheels.
Just when you think you have it all figured out, something pops up and surprises you!

with my first i wouldn't of known i was even pregnant till i got big, even then i didn't have any issues. with my S. i was nauseated, tired, crampy, and a host of other pregnancy related sumptoms. so yes pregnancies are different.
my first is a boy and my S. is a girl. so you may be baking a girl this time too!

Yes, similar situation here. First pregnancy was a dream (boy)...like I wasn't even pregnant but got all the perks of being pregnant. This time (7 years later, girl, same father) bad skin, nausea, either constipated or diarrhea, and huge belly. I was surprised too!

They say no two pregnancies are alike. Sorry your S. one is proving difficult. My S. one is offering different challenges than my first, but because it is my S., I think I am better able to face these and take them in stride.

Best,

I don't think the gender of the baby has anything to do with it, anymore than I think women carry boys differently than girls (typical old folk tale). I'm sure the different father has a bearing on it either.

That said, yes, you are older. Yes, every pregnancy is different. Yes, you might have missed a few things the first time around but I think it's a stretch to say you were oblivious. And you are way more tired than you were the first time around. Hormone levels vary so much from one pregnancy to another.

Hopefully you are having typical first trimester misery, and you are about to move into the S. trimester calm that so many women experience. I found it to be a great time, because I looked pregnant instead of just bloated, I was able to tell people who then complimented me about how great and glowing I looked, but I still had energy before the 3rd trimester waddle set in. Hopefully you will be more comfortable in your clothes and get lots of sleep. Hang in there!

yeah. i gained way too much weight with both babies, but my first pregnancy was much easier. i hiked and walked and worked and hauled my belly around with relative ease.
i stayed active with my 2nd too (having a horse and riding helped) but i found it much achier, exhausted and grouchier.

My first pregnancy had its own set of issues - I couldn't LOOK at food, couldn't watch commercials on TV with food in them, couldn't SMELL food without wretching. I couldn't go in kitchens, at all. My husband would make my meal and bring it into me in the living room, and I'd have to stab at the plate with my fork without looking in order to actually be able to eat it. This lasted from 4 weeks to 23 weeks. I had ONE good week, and then ended up in pre-term labor and in the bed until I delivered at 37 weeks.

I admit that I felt cheated. I thought pregnancy would be wonderful and romantic and it wasn't. My S. pregnancy was better - not too much morning sickness, but I just couldn't eat. It took all I had to get food to go down my throat. My doctor was unhappy that I hadn't gained enough weight, but I was so still huge - I showed even MORE in my S. pregnancy, and felt like a beached whale. I gained 12 pounds less the S. time around and looked like I gained 12 pounds more, ugh! I didn't have pre-term labor, but ended up dangerously close to pre-eclapsia. And my hip hurt so much that I screamed putting on my pantyhose and shoe.

I had two boys, so I don't think the sex had anything to do with it. I do think that our bodies just don't act the same, and hormones have a lot to do with it.

YES. My first pregnancy was so easy and my S. (I'm about midway now) is...not. I have all kinds of symptoms I didn't have with my first and I don't know if it's because I'm 6 years older or if it's just that I don't have as much time to just sit back and relax but it's driving me crazy! Oh, and this one's a girl whereas the first one was a boy so maybe that's your thing too :) Hang in there. Glad to hear I'm not alone :)

My first pregnancy was totally easy and the S., 7 years later, was totally different. I chalked it up to being older.
