My kids take cod liver oil for healthy brain and eye development. Also, the additional fatty acid has helped their dry skin.
I heard yesterday my sister that babysits her 3 year old grandson...say that she gives her grandson a vitamin everyday and fish oil capsule...why I asked....."because it is suppossed to make them smart". Has anyone ever heard of this?

I give both my sons a large dose of fish oil. They both have some neurological issues and the fish oil helps support the brain and help it do what it needs to do. Fish oil contains essential nutrients that our body cannot produce and we do not get much of those nutrients in our American diet. You have to make sure you use a high quality oil though so you don't have to worry about mercury and such. We use Nordic Naturals, but there are others that are good...Coromega....can't remember all the names. I noticed a big difference in my younger son after he started taking them. Can focus and attend much better, more cooperative and just overall better behaved. I poke holes in the capsules and squirt it into applesauce in a shot glass. It is Lemon flavored and high quality so it doesn't have as much of a taste and the apple sauce helps disguise it too. They take it happily. Just don't put it in anything plastic unless you want to dispose of it because the oil binds to the plastic over time and now matter how well you wash it it will start to smell of fish oil.
has omega 3 fatty acids that are thought to improve brain function and help with nerves and synaptic generation. My guess is it doesnt persay make you smart, but supports the means of making your brain able to learn BETTER :) it also helps with skin, nails, hair, and general over all health of the skin.
I give my daughter a spoonful of lemon flavored cod liver oil everyday, which is basically the same thing. Ideally the mom should start taking it during pregnancy. I think it's a good idea. Not necessarily for intelligence, but for overall health.
I give my son fish oil every day, but not in a capsule. Kids that young rarely can swallow something like that. I give him purified fish oil from the health food store that I know does not have mercury and chemicals in it. I give it to him in a syryng with his vitamins and hit has a lemon flavor. I do it for a lot of reasons. It helps the brain develop and helps with skin, hair, and allergies.
Yes. My kids eat children's fish oil chews.
Yes, it is good for a lot of things. But make sure it is formulated for children. Some fats are hard for them to digest. I think Shaklee's Mighty Smart is the best choice. It is a chew not a capsule.
My 3 yr old takes Omega-3 vitamin every day - or at least whenever I remember. My MIL buys them, or I'd probably not spend the money on it. (Metagenic's brand "Tooti-Frooti" flavored chewy for kids). Yes - I have heard that fish oil/omega3s/DHA are all great for brain development. "Make them smarter" I'm not so sure about, but "healthy brain development" I've heard aplenty.
Yep - mine too. They are great for brain development.
I give my kids a daily does of complete omegas 3-6-9 in a liquid form by Barleans that tastes like a smoothie and not fishy at all. I do it for the total health benefits. A fish oil capsule alone will not make any kid smart but omegas are supposed to be good for the brain. Here are some of the health benefits:
-Promotes Cardiovascular Health & Protects Against Heart Attack and Stroke
-Reduces Inflammation/Pain and Promotes Healthy Joints
-Supports Mental Focus & Long-Term Cognitive Function
-Supports Positive Mood & Emotional Well-being
-Promotes Eye Health
-Lowers Risk of Prostate, Breast & Colorectal Cancer
My guys are big, but I still give them a multi-vitamin and omega. I was told to take more folic acid when prego, and I did.
I give my kids a supplement every day, Kidsmart omega 3...they LOVE it, and my younger guy won't eat fish so it's an easy way to get the benefits!
