I would see a dermotoligist. It could be a type of fungus that needs to be treated; however, they probably won't prescribe you any medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Howevever, they can do a simple scrape test to determine.
I am 38 weeks pregnant and will be induced this week (due to gb--insulin dependent). I have been miserable for 1-2 months with itchy, flaking skin on my breast. Has anyone encountered this? Did anything you use work to clear up symptoms? I have tried a variety of creams, lotions, nipple creams. Nothing is working. I will be breast feeding so I am really concerned if this doesn't clear up there will be more itching and pain once he latches. My doctor says it is hard to diagnosis this type of condition during pregnancy and that we will need to address it once I am not pregnant. I am just super miserable and any advice would be great!

I would check with your ob/gyn they've seen it all and could tell you if it's just a result of pregnancy or possibly some sort of skin fungus etc. It's as simple as showing her/him. Then, if they feel you should see a dermatologist go that route, the problem with seeing a derm at this point is that unless you've been to one around here before you usually can't get in for about a month.
I had the same thing. Drove me nuts! It was hormonal. After my girls (twins) were born it cleared up. I don't recall how long it took after giving birth for it to clear. I breast fed the girls exclusively and didn't have any issues.
Drink more water! Yes, you will have to pee more, but you are just probably experiencing normal end of pregnancy dryness - my skin felt like it would itch off - my entire body! Drink, Drink Drink water and slather on the lotion Not much else you can do, but it will be better after you deliver - Also - take your fish oil - Omega 3s especially will naturally help the inflammation of your skin and is good for the baby - maybe try borage oil or flax oil - these are great for your baby too! Good luck!
Try taking a good quality Omega 3 fish oil. My favorite is Projoba Omega - no fishy burps.
It could just be from the skin stretching. I believe that Olay makes an intense hydrating lotion (skip the nipple and areola area though). It really worked for me. You could use the Lansinoh on the other area. Also, I think Curel makes an anti-itch severely dry skin spray. I would think that if it was yeast that it woulc be more like a rash with some red bumps. Congratulations on the baby!
You should consult a dermatologist right away. This could be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer (is your breast more warm to the touch? google it to check other symptoms/signs) or one of the more common types of skin cancer. I don't mean to frighten you, but obviously things like this that are caught early are better dealt with. Do not wait. The surge of hormones while you are pregnant can stimulate the growth of some types of cancer. Best of luck.
There was a time that i had a rash between my breast, and once I stopped eating sugar, and followed a "candida diet" it cleared up. It is not easy to give up on the foods we crave. Good luck!!
I have a similar "rash" on my hand and in between my fingers. It is extremely itchy and it came on right after I got pregnant. My last pregnancy it was on my face, so I guess I'm lucky this time it's not! It did go away almost immediately after giving birth. The Lanisoh (sp?) nipple cream does work well to tame the symptoms - and for you that will work with breast feeding as well.
Good luck, and congratulations on your new baby!!
lanolin works well and there is something that sounds about the same that comes in a purple tube that works well and is edible for the baby when you breast feed after it is born. Also AD diaper cream the clear kind works too.
Sounds like PUPPS to me. It is a pregnancy induced rash. It usually happens in the third trimester. The only cure is the birth of your child. If this is the case you will know soon. My experience is that it takes a long time to get in to see a dermatologist. Hopefully it will go away before then. Good Luck. I know how unbarable it can be.
