I have a flat top stove, when we moved in the house there were stains that I have had a heck of a time tring to clean it off. Any suggestions. I have tried numerous things. The best results was the oven cleaning but it still didn't get it all off.

We just moved into a house with one of those stove tops too. They are awful! Don't every let anything boil over!!! I've used the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponge and it's worked really well. However, after reading the responses below, I'm going to give that "white" product at the hardware store a whirl.

Good luck!

Try a product called "White Off", which you should be able to find at the hardware store. I think its main use is cleaning glass on fireplace doors. I used it yesterday on our stovetop and it worked a miracle! It literally looks like new. :)

Good luck!

Are you talking about a porcelain glass top electric ?
I use a razorblade scraper. (and then a cleaner like softscrub and lots of elbow grease). But if stains have been left on too long-especially on white or grey, some might be impossible to remove. Hot boiling sugar type spills on porcelain tops can cause permament staining and pitting.

I first scrape with a razor blade, then clean with a cooktop cleaner - right now I have Wrights brand, but other brands I've used in the past did as good of a job. To get tough stains you can also use a scrubbing pad after you've let the cleaner sit on the stain a couple minutes. Just don't let the cleaner sit too long or it will dry. It may take 2 or 3 cleanings to see a difference, too, so just stick with it. Good luck!

I have found that just plain baking soda does the job of any expensive cleaner! Just sprinkle it on the stain and use a bit of water to make a kind of paste and then rub it in with your hand. The clean up afterward can be a bit messy but it does the job that other cleaners can't. If straight baking soda doesn't work - add a bit of vinegar to it.

Hi T., I use Bar Keepers Friend cooktop cleaner. I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It works better than the other things I have tried before. You just have to make sure that it sits on the stain for a few minutes. Good luck

I assume it is a glass top stove, we had one and we had a cream cleaner and used a razor blade scraper to clean it. I suppose it depends on the type of stain.

Have you tried one of those white Mr. Clean sponges? Those things are the bomb. I use them for toilet seat stains and they work really well.
