I am a respiratory therapist and work with children, Flovent is basically the same thing a corticosteriod as Pulmicort. Your doctor might have wanted to increase the strength of the medicine and Flovent has a few more dosage choices than Pulmicort. Also, he might be trying something new since he has been on the other for a while, wanting to see what works better for him. Both drugs are used as a preventative medicine for people with asthma. So the idea is that it will help prevent future attacks because it treats inflammation. Hope this helps, just make sure with both medicines you are rinsing his mouth out, either by drinking something after or swishing and spitting out water. Both medicines can cause thrush of the mouth, so drinking something after taking it can prevent thrush(yeast infection) from occuring.
