I was just wondering if any other families experience food allergies/environmental allergies with their children and if so, what do you do? I have a 3.5 year old son who is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, dust mites, dogs, cats, ragweed, mold and weeds. I had to make all of his food from scratch for 1.5 years and have just started allowing him processed food....it has been tricky. His eczema is really bad in some seasons due to all of his environemental allergies (I had giving him medicine!!) We have joined a few allergy networks, but just wondering if anyone is involved in anything locally (Naperville, Plainfield). Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!!

So What Happened?

Thank you for your great answers.....they were all wonderful and helpful!! I will have to try that Vericream with his next break out. As of today, his skin is clear :) I do use "all natural" products....I changed everything over to Shaklee products last year and I have noticed that has helped TREMENDOUSLY :) I will have to find out more about the homeopathic route. Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my questions :)

Hi A.,
I don't know if you still need information, but I shared my products at an event last fall for POCA of DuPage. That's Parents of Children with Allergies; there is also a Will County Group too so that might cover Plainfield. They are a great networking group that provides a lot of helpful information. We used Aquaphor a lot for my son's eczema and currently use Aveeno Baby Cream for my daughter. I am an Independent Distributor for Homemade Gourmet, www.homemadegourmet.com/julie818440. We take allergens seriously and you can find more on the website under 'Recipes' then scroll down to Allergen information where there is a detailed chart for the mixes plus our sanitary practices. We are totally peanut-free. Take care!

My DS is 3 and has had eczema since age 1 mo. When he turned one, I took him to see Dr. Josephine Polich, a homeopathic Dr., in Naperville (www.dupagehomeopathic.com). I was referred to her by another mom who's son had eczema and responded very well to homeopathy for his treatment. Dr. Polich wrote this newsletter on eczema treated homeopathically and it's about that mom's little boy:
http://dupagehomeopathic.com/newsletters/eczema.pdf

After 3 mos, his skin improved by 90%. I didn't figure out til later that he had a peanut allergy, and also he is allergic to cashews. Luckily, I am able to give him the remedy to combat any allergic reactions. Currently, if he accidentally eats something that causes a reaction, he vomits and then starts to get small hives. I give him his remedy and the hives start going away in about 2 min. I don't have to give him any benadryl, which seems to take forever to work, nor have I ever had to use the Epi-pen. I have not had him tested for allergies. We just watch to see how he reacts. allergies are an imbalance in your system and Homeopathy helps the body adjust itself back into balance. It doesn't go AGAINST what the body is experiencing by trying to suppress it, it tries to heal the root imbalance/cause of the symptoms and then you see the symptoms heal. The eczema and allergic responses to foods and other allergens are the body's way of showing that it is out of balance. and steriods suppress the symptoms. If you suppress the symptoms of eczema with steroid creams, you may see your child develop asthma. If you suppress asthma with inhalers/nebulizers with steroids, you may see the person/child exhibit signs of depression. I have seen this in my own 60-yr old mother.

Anyway, I don't know if this was confusing or helpful, I hope the latter. Please read the newsletter. It's amazing and interesting. Dr. Polich can work wonders in a short amt of time. Our plans w/ my DS are that once he gets over the hump of eczema problems (i.e. doesn't have it anymore), we will work on getting rid of his peanut/treenut allergies. It IS possible!

Best wishes. Feel free to email me offlist if you want to talk more!

Hi A.,
I shop at online at Melaleuca and found that their products can address your enviromental allergy concerns. From reading your post, you don't like having to give your child medicine. Can't say I blame on you that! Would you be interested in shopping here too? You can get the same preferred customer price as we do. Plus all new customers get $100 Loyalty Dollars.

Let me know.

Hi A.,

I feel for parents that have children suffering from really bad eczema. At 3 months my baby became allergic to practically everything and in a few weeks, his body was completely covered in weeping eczema. I knew instinctively that steroids would do little to help him. My baby was so miserable I felt I couldn't take him to a traditional doctor that would use meds to suppress the symptoms rather that getting at the root of the problem. Instead I sought alternative treatment and worked with a doctor from the Dupage Homeopathic Center. I know you probably won't believe this, but my baby that had 90% of his body covered in eczema, and in five months we had his eczema under control and he was doing great. Within a few more months, you could never have guessed that his skin was so bad. Today he is allergic to nothing and he is happy and very healthy. If you'd like to talk more, contact me at ____@____.com luck,
A.

My son has allergies-environmental mostly. And cats and fish. For the Eczema you need to get this lotion called VANICREAM. You can order at the pharmacy or buy it at drugstore.com. They also make a soap. Has no perfumes or dyes in it. When you wash his clothes, do not use fabric softener. You need to use detergents like ALL "free" or Tide "free". When I took my son to the allergist and she told me to do these things he was instantly better.
