Those things are smoked so I wouldn't suspect them first. It's possible to have a reaction like that, but it may be something that's going around. My DD got a stomach bug on Sunday and my friend got it a few days later.
can food poisoning kick in 48 hours after consumption of suspect food? specifically, the turkey legs from the Renaissance festival. Yes, I should have known better.
Well, whatever it was both DD and I are better today. Thanks for pointing out the 'smoked' fact, AV. Didn't even think about that. As it was both DD and I who got sick, and the turkey leg was the only thing we'd had in common for the past 2 days, I assumed it was that. Oh, and the rocking case of food poisoning i got from one about 20 years ago. (yes, I STILL ate the thing. but it was soooo good!)

IME, it's been pretty immediate--like within a few hours typically.
My Dr. said the majority of food poisoning sets in immediately-48 hours. Most of those, being within 6 hours. It can happen after 48 hours, but is not as common. Listeria caused illnesses can be weeks after eating the compromised food.
What are the symptoms? That would help. In any case, if you are bad off...call your Dr.
Food poisoning will hit within six hours. Hope you feel better!
It's generally way sooner than that-but, yes:

and carries it out of the body
Yes. Your best bet is to call your doctor. Onset of food-borne illness depends on the "bug." If your doctor tells you it's just a regular illness, it'll be worthwhile to know! Just to be on the safe side, jot down the details of your food intake before you forget them - where you were, the date, what time you ate, and everything else you ate. The food handlers or health department will need to know those things.
I don't know, but I sure am sorry. My sister had food poisoning after eating at a Mexican diner, and if she had been pregnant, she would have thought she was giving birth. She had to go to the ER and they gave her medicines to help. (Her eyes weren't pointing the same direction while on that medicine - yikes!)
Anyway, I'd get to the doctor because you or your family member may need IV antibiotics, depending on what the bug is, and IV fluids if you aren't able to keep enough inside you.
So sorry!!!!

Food poisoning can take that long, but I assume you've eaten since then. I've eaten a lot of smoked turkey legs (at Ren Fest) and they've never caused a problem. I'd be more concerned about raw food like salads.
Every time I have had it, it has occurred within the first 6 hours, often less. Usually, there are signs and I get that "uh-oh... I hope not..." feeling closer to 4 hours after eating the offending food. By 6 hours, it usually is confirmed. The more times I have had it, the earlier I recognize the onset.
Usually, it starts by feeling like there is a box of rocks in my abdomen... Then a little queasiness. Then it escalates rather quickly from there.
If you felt fine for 48 hours after eating the turkey, it probably wasn't bad turkey. Either you ate something else more recently (salads are notorious for being contaminated and not thoroughly washed, OR for having been washed with a chemical/soap that was not completely rinsed away. If it is the "rinse" then usually you just get a case of needing the restroom really quickly for a bit. If it is actual food poisoning then you get the vomiting every 2 hours until you are empty).
What was eaten within 6-8 hours of the symptoms starting? That is more likely to be the culprit.
It seems unlikely it would take that long and I'd say if you didn't eat a turkey leg at the Renaissance festival you're crazy not the other way around! ;)
Each time I've had food poisoning, which has only been a few, it hits pretty quickly and I feel awful for 12-24 hours and then I'm fine. If your symptoms persist it's probably a bug.
If I'm not mistaken food poisoning starts within 4 hours of eating a bad food since food poisoning is often diagnosed when a sudden onset of puking and explosive diarrhea start at the same time. Usually it happens rather quickly sine the stomach needs to get rid of it in a hurry.
From what I've seen or experienced is that it's over within 24 - 48 hours with or without medical intervention.
Yes, food poisoning can kick in even more than 48 hours later or sooner.
48 hours typically. Less as well.
If it is food poisoning, you need to notify that place you got the food from, because then they/the community can be alerted and that restaurant or whatever, notified. It can even occur due to poor food handling, food temp, contaminated food and many other things.
Yes. It's just extremely unlikely. Like flipping your car in a fender bender. It happens... Just extremely rarely... And only iner a very specific set of circumstances.
The vast majority of food poisoning cases are within a few hours of consumption. Only a tiny minority of microbes trigger after 24 hours, but those ARE some of the worst (both ends, constantly, for hours until an IV or death occurs).
Food poisoning is pretty rare, and usually shows up around 6-8 hours after ingesting the food. It's likely you have a stomach virus- probably contracted at the festival.
