I ate some undercooked chicken for dinner tonight. Once I realized this I stopped. I was so nervous about it I made myself throw up. Can I still get food poisoning?

What can I do next?

It takes more than people realize to get food poisoning. It usually stems from meat that is not stored properly and therefore is bad, not just under cooked. I think you will be fine.

Oh--you would KNOW pretty quickly if you have food poisoning. It feels like every cell in your body is puking at the same time.

Just because you eat undercooked meat, does not mean you will automatically get sick. The meat would need to be spoiled. I used to get upset from my nerves. You should be fine! :)

Well the good thing is that you stopped. You didn't eat the whole thing. More than likely you'll be ok. Most times we eat something undercooked, it just needs to get out of our systems.

You should be ok. Just relax and keep a Sprite next to you.

You cannot get food poisoning from under-cooked chicken. It would need to be spoiled or contaminated and if it is, sometimes even fully cooked you could get sick. What you CAN get from under-cooked chicken is Salmonella and it is very different from food poisoning. If you are not vomiting and do not have a serious case of diarrhea then your probably OK. If you are doing either one of these go see a doctor right now.

Believe me you will KNOW if you have it by now!

Food poisoning is nothing to joke around about it and it is VERY intense cramping pain that does not quit....but in case you do get it...if you have access to a swimming pool, for some reason water helps take some of the pain away!

We had Thanksgiving at my Aunt's her first year of cooking and when we were cutting the turkey to take some home...it was freaking pink inside and there was blood. Bleck! I tossed and turned all night waiting to get horribly ill and NOTHING :) I was fine!

You'll be fine-chicken is generally fine-even when it's undercooked-it doesn't mean you are ingesting an organism that will wreak havoc on your delicate tummy (and such)! Please don't make yourself throw up again unless you are certain you have been poisoned and it is indicated-very hard on the heart, you know.

It's pretty unlikely. My husband did the same thing and he was so nervous all day. You will be ok.

I'm more concerned that you were so nervous you vomitted.
