My hubby has had "food poisoning" three timesi n the last 5 weeks. At least that is what he says but my thoughts are that is a lot of bouts of food poisoning in a short period of time...he is the only one getting sick...how many times would you let this happen before you kick him out the door to go to the doctor?!? He says it's just food poisoning but he's been pretty misserable for a long while now....thoughts

I wanted him to go in after the last time but he was sickers again last night.

He has no fever just bad stomach issues both directions. The times that I have seen him actually have food poisoning which is only twice in the ten years I have been with him he always has a fever with it.

Thanks for any thoughts/ideas/help

What can I do next?

What has he been eating?
Lot's of things can be going on.
Food poisoning is a possibility but so is food allergy, chronic appendicitis, colitis, diverticulitis, irritable bowel, ulcer, reflux, gall bladder trouble, stomach/colon cancer, etc.
It might be trivial or it might be serious - he should see a gastroenterologist and find out what is going on.
If it is something serious, the earlier you catch it, the better.
If it's trivial, the peace of mind knowing it's not serious is worth it for both of you.
Make an appointment and drag him into the doctors office.

I recommend that he start keeping a diary of what he's eating. This does not sound like food poisoning to me. My sister recently had her gallbladder out and had very similar symptoms before she did.

I suggest that you try to figure out what he was eating and take that information to the doctor.

He should be seen.

My husband had "waves of nausea" on and off for months. He blew it off as a stomach bug the first few times. Finally saw a dr. Dr. blew it off as stomach bug!! Several months and several more "episodes" passed. I finally took him to urgent care and went with him!! It's anxiety!! It has slowed significantly (almost disappeared) since we found out and he can now try to mentally relax, calm his body, etc. Needless to say, he has since switched drs also!

I have had food poisoning and its something I had to have a doctor treat me. I think he may have something else serious going on and should be seen right away.

Some food poisoning situations will definitely go on for a long time. Food poisoning isn't always just sick-for-a-weekend-and-get-on-with-life.

Does your husband happen to know what he has eaten in the last five weeks? If you ever get sick and suspect food poisoning, you need to write down absolutely everything that you remember eating before the illness hit, and where the food came from. (This dictum is from my son the food safety expert.)

It would be good for your husband to see the doctor just to make sure it's not anything else - gall bladders have been mentioned in several of the previous answers. If he's so positive it's from food, let him eliminate all the other possibilities... because the other possibilities could be pretty yucky.

My husband had the same thing and each time we thought it was food poisoning.....it ended up being his gallbladder. He should get an ultrasound of his gallbladder to see if there are any stones in it......most people do have them. There is a purge to get rid of gallstones so that he won't have to have surgery. People say you don't need your gallbladder.....not true....you can live without it, but it is what digests and breaks down fat, so life can be far from nice without it. Some people don't have any problems after surgery, but more do. If you want the purge let me know by email and I will email it to you. I have done it a number of times....I passed a ton of stones the first time and less each time thereafter. I am a chiropractor, just so you know my background. My information doesn't come out of thin air.

Sounds like he has an intestinal bug that won't go away. There is one that's name I cannot remember, but it has to do with eating undercooked chicken. Then later, eating fruit interacts in the gut with the bug that is still circulating around in there, and makes you sick again.

This happened to a friend of mine, and when the docs figured it out (it took some real investigating - a good doctor, I think!), they gave him antibiotics that got rid of that bug he was still harboring. Then he got better.

I will tell you that salmonella will stay for a good long time. Antibiotics don't help that. But being sick over it will just kick your butt, big time. Tell him to make sure he drinks plenty of water and not let himself dehydrated, because it makes it really hard on his kidneys.

I would get him to the doctor and have a fecal sample done to see if there is anything in there that they can detect. A blood and urine sample is a good idea too.

So sorry!
